The Specialist Imaging Unit within the Forensic Services Directorate of the Met does a very important job. Our skills are rare to the point of being unique. That puts our team of our photographers in high demand. While we mainly serve London, we also assist other police forces and specialist bodies, both in the UK and overseas. All of this makes our work fascinating, varied and vital. If you bring a keen eye for detail, you could be part of it.

Right now, we’re looking an experienced photographer to join us. This is an exciting opportunity to be on the team that has played a significant role in the investigation of every London terrorist attack, as well as the Salisbury Nerve Agent attack and the Grenfell Tower tragedy. It’s your chance to make a real difference in the investigation and solving of major crime and incidents.

In this highly rewarding role, your time will be split between the crime scene and the laboratory. As you’d expect, you’ll carry out specialist examination of scenes and items submitted to the Met’s forensic laboratories. Often, you’ll be working in very challenging conditions and to tight timescales. Everything you do will help investigations move forward and reach a successful conclusion.

Ideally, you’ll bring a proven track record within a specialist area of the imaging field. You’re knowledgeable about photographic techniques, and able to solve basic imaging problems to obtain highly detailed images for examination. Additionally, you have a full (manual) UK driving licence.

What also matters is that you’re a team player who is highly self-motivated. You’re willing to participate in shift work and an on-call system to get the job done. You’re also happy to undergo specialist training and vetting in order to participate in the unique nature of our work.

To apply, please visit our website to download a role specific information pack. Applications will be via a detailed CV, Personal Statement and online application form.

Completed applications must be returned by 29th October 2019.

We view diversity as fundamental to our success. To tackle today’s complex policing challenges, we need a workforce made up from all of London’s communities. Applications from across the community are therefore essential.
