Job Title: Digital Forensic Technician
Salary: £31,070 to £36,893 plus £2,930 location allowance. You will receive £31,070 the band minimum. Progress to the band maximum of £36,893 will be via incremental progression.

Nearly nine million people call London home. It’s an evolving and dynamic city, which means we face complex policing challenges every day. And in the Digital, Cyber and Communications (DCC) forensics team, you’ll be a vital part of bringing criminals to justice.
We provide invaluable digital forensic services across the Met. It’s about examining devices, such as mobile phones or computers, to help officers resolve investigations. So here, your impact will be felt on a daily basis.
Our Digital Forensic Hubs are labs located around the capital, and you’ll work in one of these hubs with a talented team consisting of a hub manager, other forensic technicians, and forensic assistants. You’ll perform digital forensic examinations, and ensure strategies meet appropriate legislation and quality standards. This rotational role will see you move between the hubs and central laboratory where you will receive advanced training to develop your skills and knowledge.
In this crucial role, you’ll conduct the forensic analysis of digital submissions, and give hands-on advice to investigating officers. That means communicating technical information in a clear, simple way. Your notes, reports and statements will be well written, and you’ll attend court as a witness.
It’s a fast-paced environment, often working to tight deadlines. So balancing competing priorities is a must, along with keeping a cool head under pressure. It takes sound decision-making, and a natural ability to solve problems. While a relevant technical degree (or equivalent experience) is required, it’s your attention to detail and enthusiasm for forensics that set you apart. You’ll also need excellent knowledge of digital forensics, particularly for either computers or mobile phones. Plus, you should have a technical understanding of the tools used to recover, analyse and process digital data.

Essential Criteria
- Ability to operate advanced digital forensic equipment
- A broad knowledge of, and interest in, all modern digital technologies with an emphasis on the forensic opportunities offered by their examination
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to convey ideas and technical knowledge to police officers and a non-technical audience
- Have a technical understanding of the fundamental principles behind electronic devices and the way in which they inter-operate with each other and other systems
- Ability to manage workloads and resources
- Ability to build effective relationships with customers, colleagues and stakeholders
- Understanding of the rules regarding evidence gathering and its presentation at court
Desirable Criteria
- An understanding of the rules regarding evidence gathering and its presentation at court
- Knowledge of relevant legal powers/procedures/acts (CPIA, PACE and Human Rights Act etc.
- Driving licence
- Understanding of Law Enforcement and the Criminal Justice System
