For those who hold PIP Level 2 - Band D £31,415, plus a £2,000 market supplement, plus location allowance

Location: Across London

Role Purpose

You will need to have experience in the investigation of crime, evaluating intelligence and information from various sources and complete research documentation. You will understand effective criminal investigation techniques and will be responsible for undertaking thorough investigations into incidents. The post holder will be given designated powers once training has been completed.

You will be required at times to prepare written material on behalf of senior leaders on issues of critical importance and to liaise with key stakeholders within outside agencies and within the MPS.

Key Responsibilities 

The successful candidates will have designated powers on behalf of the Commissioner, which will enable them to carry out specific functions currently exclusively carried out by warrant holders.

The role holder will carry out the following functions and responsibilities.

  • Obtain warrants at court and execute them, including Knife Crime Prevention Orders (KCPOs) and other enforcement orders. This will include presenting the evidence and serving the notice.
  • Conduct searches within PACE (Section 18 18-5).
  • Legally seizing evidence under section 19 of PACE.
  • Conduct Interviews and giving suspects special warnings.
  • Having the authority for prisoners in custody to be handed over for purposes of interview.
  • Victim liaison,
  • Progress established criminal investigations including:
  • Scene attendance/appreciation,
  • Interrogation and analysis of information from Open Source and MPS data sources, Statement taking,
  • Prepare and conduct formal interviews with suspects, victims and witnesses, completing PIP2 witness testimonies as appropriate
  • Identify lines of enquiry and potential evidence gathering opportunities, securing and preserving evidence at the earliest opportunity.
  • Movement of documents and exhibits; including logistics, continuity and transport.
  • Conduct a planned investigation in line with the requirements of legislation and policy
  • Interrogate EWMS to establish lines of enquiry for W/M violent nominals, and those wanted for violent and weapon-enabled offences pan-London
  • Interrogate CRIS to establish lines of enquiry for W/M violent nominals, and those wanted for violent and weapon-enabled offences pan-London
  • Assist the syndicates with HKC/Gang/PFO nominal research
  • Support with research for warrant /proactive investigation
  • Identify and exploit ‘Achilles heel’ opportunities against violent offenders (eg through DWP, Housing, Judicial Restrictions)
  • Support Op Domain in seeking removal of inflammatory material on social media
  • Assist investigations in terms of POCA

Skills

  • High level of investigative skills
  • Experience of high level document report writing
  • Preparation of court files and reports
  • Knowledge of disclosure
  • Examining large volumes of electronic and paper documents, which will require a high level of attention to detail and ability to act independently.
  • Attendance at court to give evidence may be required
  • Maintain Continuous Professional Development (CPD) to remain PIP 1 and 2 accredited and as per the Police Staff Investigator role requirements.
  • To work as required in and occasional working in other areas of the country.

Please note you will need to undergo OST/ELS training

It is essential for the post holder to have:

  • Previous experience in the conduct of Police investigations or intelligence environment and in conducting interviews.
  • Previous experience of investigations and preparing reports for outside agencies.
  • A good working knowledge of criminal law and of the criminal justice system.
  • A high level of interpersonal, written and oral skills.
  • The ability to work unsupervised and as part of a team.
  • A methodical approach to work and the ability to work under pressure and to meet deadlines.
  • To have an awareness of equality and diversity issues in the working environment.
  • IT literate, MS Word, Excel, CRIS system.
  • Current driving licence
  • PIP Level 1.  

It is desirable for the post holder to have a working knowledge in any of the following areas or have a required skill.
