Job Title: CTP - Senior IT Support Engineer

Salary: £43,292 to £47,380 plus a Location Allowance of £1,639.

Job Summary

This role is part of the National Counter Terrorism ICT Support Team, working as part of the London unit providing IT support of systems to the National Digital Exploitation Service.

In this role you will be managing an existing infrastructure based around Windows Servers and virtualisation, Cisco networks and Dell storage.

We role requires a rounded IT skillset of someone that can look after a full stack estate of hardware, servers, network, storage and applications.  

The main tasks will focus around ensuring the estate is operational and functioning as expected, ensuring the estate is correctly patched and secure, performing backups, upgrades and changes when required.

This role will include on call for any critical issues outside of normal working hours.

 This role requires a flexible working approach and will be part of a team who will provide onsite IT support the role holder may be required to travel to sites around London as appropriate, so UK driving licence required.       

Key Tasks

  • Maintain a full Server, Storage & Network stack to maintain SLA uptimes
  • Maintain and manage backups
  • Ensure Antivirus is up-to-date
  • Mange and deploy virtual servers with Hyper-V
  • Patching a Wintel server estate
  • Patching a Cisco network estate
  • Patching of storage systems
  • Deployment new OS builds and applications
  • Administration of Windows Active Directory
  • Setting and managing file permissions
  • Managing application packages with App-V
  • Managing and replacing faulty hardware with suppliers

Vetting

This post requires access to the most sensitive intelligence material on a daily basis. Applicants must hold or be prepared to undergo National Security Vetting (NSV) Developed Vetting (DV) level before taking up the post.

Additionally, this material is of particular sensitivity to the UK and its distribution must be restricted to UK nationals. In approved circumstances dual nationals (of which one element is British) may also be granted access. However, in the event that potential conflicts of interest cannot be managed the post holder will not be able to see the intelligence material and will not be able to perform their duties. For the purpose of safeguarding national security and in line with Cabinet Office Policy, supported by Section 82(2) to (4) of the Police Reform Act (2002), applicants who do not hold or acquire Security Check (enhanced) (SC(e)) or Developed Vetting (DV) clearance and meet the nationality requirements cannot be offered the post.

    Essential Criteria

    The role holder must have:

    • Clean UK driving licence
    • Currently working in an IT Support capacity
    • Ability to own their own work and be proactive
    • Good understanding of Microsoft technologies and supporting servers
    • Understanding of working within a ITIL service environment working to defined metrics and SLAs
    • Experience of Cisco technologies
    • Ability to prioritise, execute tasks and achieve results in a busy Service Operation environment
    • Good experience of network monitoring

    Desirable Criteria

    • Experience of network storage products
    • ITIL Foundation
    • Experience of network security products
