Job Title: Student Placement - Technology - Counter Terrorism Policing - 2027/2028
Salary: £27,705.60
Location: Birmingham and West London
Duration: 12 months
The Met
The Metropolitan Police Service (MPS) employs approximately 44,000, officers and Staff, plus thousands of volunteers and provides policing to one of the most diverse capital cities in the world. The service provides policing to the 32 London Boroughs as well as a number of other local, national and international functions such as counter terrorism and organised crime prevention. As the country’s largest police service, the service is recognised internationally as a leader in fighting crime and many other policing organisations look to the MPS for best practice and guidance.
We are looking to recruit students for a 52-week student placement with the Metropolitan Police Service. All roles will give students valuable insight and experience of working for one of the largest public organisations in the UK and the largest single employer in London. The roles are substantive posts, and we seek to provide valuable practical experience wherever our students work.
Counter Terrorism Policing
Counter Terrorism Policing is a collaboration of UK police forces working with the UK intelligence community to help protect the public and our national security by preventing, deterring and investigating terrorist activity. As the threat of terrorism continues to change and evolve, we need to be ready which means we need to be constantly adapting. Delivering change is hugely important therefore, and this is your chance to play your part in a challenge that is as important as it gets: protecting the UK and its communities.
Multiple Roles
Please find a list of all roles available within Technology, as part of your application form you will be required to state your preference of role, with number 1 being your first preference.
About you
All candidates must be undergraduate students in a sandwich year course returning to study in Autumn 2028.
Vetting
The posts require access to the most sensitive intelligence material on a daily basis. Applicants must hold or be prepared to undergo National Security Vetting (NSV) Security Check (enhanced) (SC(e)) level before taking up the post.
Some posts may require British nationality (some dual nationals may be ineligible) and an Enhanced Security Check (eSC) clearance.
As the post holder will have access to very sensitive information, there are limitations on travelling to a small number of countries and we will undertake additional security checks as part of the recruitment process. Applications from candidates with close connections to certain countries may take considerably longer to process, or in some cases result in a withdrawal of an offer of employment. Further details will be provided at the conditional offer stage.
Application & Security Guidance
In line with CTP and vetting security expectations, candidates should exercise discretion when discussing their application.
Please ensure that your personal email address is used primarily throughout the application process - this includes CV/Cover Letter submissions and all security clearance checks. This is important because personal email addresses are the most secure and reliable way to keep you reachable throughout the process.
University email accounts can be institution-managed and may be filtered, restricted, or deactivated, which can interrupt access to secure links and updates. You can still provide your university email as a secondary contact.
Using a personal email helps protect confidentiality, ensures you remain in control of account recovery/Multi-Factor Authentication, and reduces the risk of missed time critical messages or sensitive information being sent to an account you may later lose access to.
Confidentiality Agreement
Applicants should also be aware of the need to sign a confidentiality agreement on taking up the post.
