Below is a comprehensive list of what the role entails.

The unit consists of 4 teams of 3 officers, so when you are in the office during the day there is always another person on with you.

 Roles and Responsibilities

  • Staffing of SCTaC office contact phone 24/7.
  • To provide a 24 hour ‘front of house’ access to Specialist Crime, including Proactive Teams and Syndicates; MO2 Field Intelligence Officer Teams, Violent Crime Task Force and Firearms Intelligence Viper Teams.
  • To identify incidents likely to require a Specialist Crime reactive response through horizon and CAD scanning (murders and shootings.) To support the coordination of SC reactive response.
  • To provide an initial triage for requests to assess what might be suitable for Specialist Crime (SC) escalation in line with SCTaC guidelines.
  • Maintain and update SCTaC documents, indices and trackers.
  • Monitor and action enquiries into SCTaC Group Mailbox.
  • Maintain deployment boards showing Specialist Crime availability, including Specialist Crime cars.
  • To have knowledge of the process for high risk controlled deliveries (Op Dovyan) and provide operational support where required.
  • Record firearm surrenders and recoveries.
  • Maintain an On Call Decision Maker roster and provide operational support as required.
  • Be able to provide verbal and written updates and handovers on incidents managed. This may include briefing incoming staff and senior officers.
  • Represent SCTaC at various meetings.
  • Work with partner agencies including Operation Vanguard – real time cash in transit tracking and support for the Flying Squad.

Essential Criteria

  • Vetting to MV/SC but willing to undergo DV vetting if required
  • Ability to collect, assess and prioritise information and brief senior leaders to enable critical decisions to be made.
  • Working knowledge of MPS IT systems including Microsoft Office, Excel, CRIS and CRIMINT.
  • CAD Browse
  • PNC (or willingness to be trained)
  • Self-motivated, the ability to work with minimum supervision.
  • Strong ability to communicate effectively in writing to produce structured reports.
  • Work 12 hour shifts including nights and weekends due to the business need of the unit. A copy of our shift pattern can be sent to you if you would like to see it before you apply.
