BE AT THE HEART OF A CHANGING SERVICE.

The Metropolitan Police Cyber Crime Unit (MPCCU) focuses on the most serious offences of cyber dependent crime, including the development, distribution, use or control of malicious software (malware), ransomware, network intrusion, website defacement, denial of service attacks, the online trade in financial, personal and other data, the provision of services and tools to facilitate cyber-dependent crime, and other Computer Misuse Act (CMA) related offending.

The unit has both force and regional responsibilities for cyber dependent crime and aligns to the National Cyber Security Strategy and The Met Direction.

The Pursue strand comprises four investigative teams, aiming to identify and disrupt those responsible for cyber crime. The post holder will conduct investigations into the most serious incidents of network based organised criminal activity; detect hi-tech crime; gather and distribute relevant and quality intelligence; and produce evidence in a form which is admissible in Court. The role requires an ability to understand and investigate a wide range of complex investigations and proactive operations, including sensitive and high profile enquiries that span national and international boundaries.

The MPCCU also has responsibility for tackling cyber enabled, serious and organised crime. The unit is tasked with proactively targeting OCNs that utilise the Darkweb, Clearweb and Encrypted platforms to conduct criminality. There will be opportunities within the MPCCU to work on extensive proactive investigations, conducting surveillance deployments where appropriate.

We welcome applications from people who have never worked within Specialist Crime before and from people who do not possess all of the desirable criteria.
