The Data Office

The Commissioner and Management Board have determined that the Met will be a data driven organisation. This means treating our data in the same way we treat our people, methods and technology; as a strategic asset.

The Data Office is the single place of accountability across the Met that:

  • Owns and drives the data compliance and analytics agenda.
  • Brings together the accountabilities that are currently dispersed across the Met business areas.
  • Consolidates and further develops existing Met data and insight services.
  • Enables data sharing and collaboration to serve the public and external partners.

Data Office functions:

  • Data Governance: Ensure that the end-to-end process of managing data from its identification and collection through to its eventual disposal is conducted in an efficient, compliant and secure manner. The division will create, disseminate and enforce a set of rules and consistent standards across data usage, quality, security and compliance, providing direction for the workforce with regard to data usage, which will enable the delivery of the Met’s data strategy in line with data laws.
  • Reporting & Analytics: Dedicated to developing better products to sit alongside and enhance self-service. Responsible for managing the flow of information requests and ensuring all reporting requirements are met. We monitor and ensure the delivery of all data requests, as well as ensuring that all Ad-Hoc and BAU reporting needs are addressed. The Reporting and Analytics team are responsible for developing the current reporting capability in order for requestors to be able to gain access to more meaningful insight from enhanced reports and dashboards, as well as providing demand analysis to allow the Data Office to be better resourced to meet the current data strategy. We provide insight that helps leaders understand and improve performance and risk issues by delivering an evidence based performance framework that embeds organisational learning outcomes.
  • Data Innovation & Service Improvement: Coordinates all Data Service Improvement and Innovation activities including: data innovation, sharing, literacy, partnering, and service improvement and will look to create and embed a culture of continuous improvement across the Met. The team will work to on-board external partners to help develop shared data-led policing solutions and will work to close data knowledge gaps, ensuring that appropriate levels of data literacy are in place across the Met in order for the data strategy to be realised.
  • Data Foundations: The Head of Data Foundations is part of the Data Office Senior Leadership Team within Corporate Services. The role will act as the Data Office’s strategic lead on the core capabilities from the Data Strategy that encompass data foundations; Quality, Ownership/Stewardship, Standards and Classification, Data Integration and end-to-end Data Management. The role will lead small teams of experts who work across the MPS, including with operational units, to enable our lawful, ethical and proportionate use of data.

As a Lead Analyst in the Data Office, you will work with the Senior Analyst to develop and implement approaches and frameworks that underpin and enable the organisation to understand emerging risks and opportunities.

You will provide relevant, high quality, insightful analysis to steer organisational direction, inform decision making at all levels, provide assurance and drive continuous improvement with a clear evidence base.

You will:

  • Deliver service improvement initiatives from identification to full development and ensure they improve operational effectiveness
  • Provide expert advice and guidance to the Senior Analyst to support the development of the MPS internal service improvement frameworks. This will include establishing a consistent methodology for identifying and supporting opportunities for business and process improvement.
  • Manage a team of analysts as they develop and implement analytical products in support of the Data Office objectives.
  • Develop data sharing opportunities with current and new partners.
  • Build and maintain effective internal relationships with senior officers, staff and external stakeholders to ensure we understand their needs and deliver the right products.
  • Embrace change and providing the drive to continuously improve data services.
  • Work in line with Met Data Strategy

The five vacancies are in the following Reporting & Analytics teams:

  • Rebuilding Trust
  • Regular Reporting (Professional Standards)
  • Regular Reporting (Violence)
  • Local Analytics (Met Operations)
  • Ad Hoc Reporting

The recruitment process and job description is the same for all five vacancies and applicants will be given an opportunity to express a preference as to which role they wish to be selected for.   The Reporting & Analytics SLT will make the final decision as to which role the successful candidates will be posted to, therefore applicants should be prepared to work in any of the five teams.
