Role – MO7 Taskforce Mounted Branch Police Constable

 

Location - Subject to Operational need – based at one of the Operational Units of Bow, Lewisham, Hammersmith, West Hampstead, Great Scotland Yard

Role & Responsibilities.

 

  • Mounted deployments supporting the policing of Public order, sporting and ceremonial events throughout the MPS.
  • Dealing with pre – planned and spontaneous public disorder, assisting with intelligence led crime reduction, reassurance patrols, community engagement opportunities, CT operations and supporting MPS & BCU Priorities.
  • Duties include all aspects of a Mounted Branch operational unit including horse riding, horse care and management.

Essential Criteria.

 

  • Currently Public Order trained or previously public order trained. Successful candidates who are out of date must re qualify (Level 2) prior to a suitability course. Proof of Level 2 to be checked at selection centre. Selection will be based on merit however applications are encouraged from officers who can provide evidence of strong operational and public order background.
  • The training provided at the Metropolitan Police’s Mounted Branch Training Establishment (MTE) will be specifically focused on giving you the riding skills you need to transfer your policing skills into the Mounted Branch. A suitability course combined with the Standard Equitation Certificate allows for non-riders to be exposed up to 20 weeks of expert training. This full time course takes place at MTE. Accommodation is available upon request.

 

 

 

 

Desirable Criteria.

  • It would be desirable for applicants to have a basic awareness of horse management and be able to walk, trot, canter and demonstrate a change of rein but not essential (see the Essential emphasis above) on this occasion as the training will be tailored based on your current ability.

You DO NOT need to provide separate example in the MET VALUES BOX but in order to navigate off the page you need to put into the box words to the effect of ‘PROFESSIONALISM’ is evidenced in the CVF examples above. You only need to provide an example in each of the CVF boxes. Your CVF example should also demonstrate elements of professionalism, as well as the competency being asked for from the CVF model.

 

All examples must be verified by a supervising officer with contact telephone number. One example per competency. Each competency should be no longer than 300 words in Arial Font Size 11. At the paper sift stage, trained Taskforce assessors may wish to contact your verifiers.

 Failure to adhere to the above will mean that the application will not proceed.

 

 

 

 

 

Following a paper sift, successful applicants will be invited to attend an Assessment day at MTE. The day comprises of 4 elements: an exam involving general policing and specific Mounted Branch related questions, a riding assessment, a CVF based interview and two practical police role plays.
