The Hate Crime Team Policy and Development Team is the central point of contact for all BCUs and staff relating to Hate Crime matters. The team has a strategic influence on shaping and developing policy and materials for any MPS personnel dealing with Hate Crime investigations.  It provides tactical policy advice and support to the Lead Responsible Officer for Hate Crime.

 

It is part of the Continuous Policing Improvement Command (CPIC), which consists of specialist Tactical and Policy Advisors (TPA’s) responsible for specific areas within policing. The role of a TPA is to drive improvement, prevent crime, reduce harm, build confidence and create demand reduction by enhancing MPS service delivery and operational effectiveness. 

·                Support to the Hate Crime lead responsible officer (LRO) Commander Public Protection and Commander FLP

 

·                Work alongside the PS for the Virtual Hate Crime Hub to support the BCU HCOP (Hate Crime Outcomes and Performance) Officers

 

·                To review and refresh the MPS Hate Crime Policy

 

·                To review ongoing investigations and critical incidents and provide tactical advice as neeed

 

 

·                To provide responses to FOIA’s assigned to the team. 

 

·                Opportunity to become involved in project work on Hate Crime

 

·                Deliver training and presentations to a wide audience both locally, national and internationally.

 

·                Monitoring and assessment of Hate Crime key performance indicators (KPIs)

 

·                Produce reports for internal and external partners

 

·                Provide briefings and reports for MOPAC, Management Board and NPCC leads

 

 

·                Identify and highlight emerging trends on Hate Crime

   

·                Work with Strategy and Governance to ensure performance analysis drives improved performance around Hate Crime  

 

·                Liaise with DMC to ensure external and internal communication plans are implemented via social media, intranet and blogs

 

Essential Criteria

·       Substantive within the role of DC.  


Desirable Criteria

  • Previous investigative experience around Hate Crime
  • Experience of working in a Community Safety Unit
  • Experience of working with statutory and non-statutory partners
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to communicate and write reports and briefing notes effectively at all levels.  
  • An adaptable and flexible approach to workload requirements.  
  • Proven IT skills with proficiency in the use of MS Office applications, Excel and BOX.   
  • An understanding of Continuous Improvement methodology. 
  • A good working knowledge of the MPS structure and strategic practices.  
  • Able to work with minimal supervision.
