Pan London & SOR Inspector

This role brings an exciting opportunity to manage the Metropolitan Police’s unique control rooms and delivers the Pan London Command and Control, which supports the MO12 Superintendent for Pan London Operations. The role holder is responsible for effective leadership of the SOR (Specialist Operations Room) which is a collaborative control room that ensures all dedicated Pan London assets across all FLP and specialist OCU’s are under effective command and control, against a demand backdrop IRO 15,000 calls a day. SOR monitors risk in every incident that occurs in London and it is the gateway to every MPS asset and it is therefore imperative that the MPS response is effective 24/7/365. The role includes being the lead for numerous thematic portfolios that require in-depth knowledge and understanding, along with personal accountability and to represent the MPS at senior levels in meetings across London and nationally. It also includes management of the GT office supporting large-scale public order events or major incidents in London. The role holder will ensure that SOR is a constantly evolving environment, developing with new technologies, responding to new threats and responds in a timely manner to organisational learning. Key Responsibilities: 

  • Lead for all Pan London related operations, supporting the MO12 Chief Inspector & Supt for Pan London Operations
  • Direct line management for 2 supervisor posts consisting of Sergeant and/or Band D police staff
  • Leading the Pan London functions and supporting the cohort of Met Grip Chief Inspectors.
  • Implement the MPS strategic direction and develop the Pan London supervisors and operators
  • Lead for numerous thematic areas of specialism within Pan London, including Airwave, Police Pursuits, Policies, and SOP’s.
  • Responsible for management of GT, including the bridge with MO6 & support the command and control of all events in London.
  • Responsible for collation, assessment and implementation of organisational learning within the GT office and SOR.
  • Lead Pan London working group and engage with OCU’s across MPS as required.
  • Lead for MO12 on multi-agency regional control room board.
  • Work collaboratively with respective leaders of all Cat 1 responders for London (LFB, LAS, CoLP, BTP, HM Coastguard).
  • Develop capacity and capability to ensure both control rooms (Lambeth & Hendon) are operationally effective & efficient for use.
  • Undertake Metgrip shifts supporting abstractions for holiday, sickness etc.

Essential Criteria: 

  • Proven leadership and management skills
  • Ability to work flexibly and dynamically at times of critical demand.
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to implement, support and motivate necessary change
  • Public order experience
  • EMIF trained or willing to undertake the course.
  • JESIP working knowledge and operational experience in command roles
  • Excellent IT skills and knowledge of MPS IT systems especially knowledge of the CAD system
  • Proven understanding of both Police officer and Police Staff regulations

 Desirable criteria: 

  • NEBOSH Health & Safety trained
  • Bronze Communications Trained
  • Current OST, ELS and JRFT
  • Met Ops trained
  • Experience of dealing with Public Order Command team
