Brief Description                  

 

The post holder will be required to provide leadership and direction for the Taskforce Surge Team. In addition portfolio responsibilities covering a broad spectrum of activities will be required as secondary duties.

Creation of a central proactive surge team in MO7 to provide a flexible pool to deliver uniformed proactivity on BCUs and across boundaries. Born out of a re alignment of resource to the wider Met priorities of More Trust, Less Crime and High Standards by delivering cohesive, resilient and flexible teams to fight local crime priorities.

Keeping the team distinct from TSG, but within the same command, will ensure they are not routinely drawn into public order, but are fully interoperable with TSG and other taskforce asset.

The work of the Surge Teams involves pro-actively patrol in uniform using unmarked and marked police vehicles making the best use of stop and search, arrest and other search powers. Building relationships and working seamlessly with BCU’s. Use intelligence led deployments Pan London to ensure finite resources are in the right place at the right time in line with the Commissioner’s Precision Policing ethos.  The new TTCG design will assist in driving activity and improve coordination between local and centrally held (MO7) asset.

Targeting high-harm offenders, high-impact offenders/, and those that cause the greatest harm to communities – this will include those featured within the VHI and VAWG 100 via reachback from MO2

 

The applicant will be expected to: 

Job Requirements:

  • Manage a proactive tasking Unit  – made up of: 4 Sergeants, 15 Proactive team constables as part of a larger Proactive Surge Team 
  • Monitor and adjust tasking throughout the posting to drive performance
  • Work closely with other MO7 departments, to ensure a seamless service to the BCUs
  • Supervise the development of close working relationships with the local BCU SNTs and proactive units to implement local tasking’s, continually monitoring, reviewing and adjusting accordingly.
  • Support the use of intelligence products produced by MO2 to maximise deployment activity – give feedback – and ensure teams contribute to the intelligence picture whilst deployed.
  • Ensure officers behave with the highest levels of integrity and professionalism.
  • Ahead of deployments – with local SNTs – manage outreach and engagement with local community to secure buy in from local communities for our presence and tactics on the ground.
  • Work with MO7 PSU to mitigate any issues that are taking place locally on our surge deployments and exercise service recovery.
  • Ensure effective use of the VHI to priorities and target HHOs and apprehend most wanted.
  • Case file / Stop & Search management in line with MPS Policy, Criminal Justice and CMT guidelines and requirements
  • Must have a sound ability to manage and mitigate risk effectively in order to ensure the safety and wellbeing of officers, staff and the public.
  • Managing street level proactive deployments targeting high harm areas using an array of approved tactics.

 

Location & Hrs of Duty:

  •  Based at Alperton Traffic Base, Wembley  
  • The core hours of duty will be 0700 – 2300 Monday to Sunday
  • Due to the nature of the Team’s work, there is an expectation and obligation to work long hours/shift changes at short notice.
  • There may be a requirement for officers to opt out of the Working Time Agreement

Essential Criteria:

  • Substantive Police Inspector
  • Response driver trained
  • ERO qualification required
  • Taser X2 or willing to pass Taser X2 course
  • Up to date OST / ELS
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • A flexible approach to duty time/parades will be essential with a willingness to work extended hours.
  • Not subject to any tenure by current OCU
  • Knowledge and experience of pursuit management, resilient, self-motivated with ability to priorities workload.
  • Evidence and experience of working in a pro-active role as a supervisor
  • Role model that maintain the highest levels of integrity and professionalism.
  • Public order level 2 or willingness to undertake training

  • Rapid Entry trained
  • Advanced driver trained
  • Response Police Motorcycle (Current)
  • Advanced Police Motorcycle (Current)
  • Fast roads and HOYSTYDS Trained.
