Shifts:  Role involves 2 x 0500 – 1500 hrs followed by 2 x 1400 – 0200 hrs. There will also be a small number of additional training days for mandatory training.

Role Overview

This is an exciting time to be working as a weapon issuing officer for the Metropolitan Police Service. In addition to large-scale transformation, there's the unique and ever-evolving challenge of policing London. This means that as a weapon issuing officer, there are more opportunities for you to get involved with making London the safest global city in a time of unprecedented change within the UK's largest Police Service. You will be responsible for issuing Aviation officers with weapons and specialist equipment. You will maintain and organise the armoury while implementing new operating procedures to ensure the security of all specialist equipment. You will be part of a team which prides itself on its professionalism and 'get the job done' attitude. We are looking for a team player who is enthusiastic and organised. The candidate must be highly self-motivated and a problem-solver.

Key Responsibilities

What does the average day look like? Your core duties will include:

  • To issue and receive weapons and ammunition
  • The storage, record keeping and auditing processes in relation to issue/return of weapons, ammunition and disposal.
  • Transportation of munitions and assist the Metropolitan Police Service armourers as and when required.

  • Proven respect for diversity.

Desirable Criteria

  • Knowledge of firearms, although you will undertake weapons familiarisation with the force armorers as necessary for the fulfilment of the role. 
  • Strong administrative and governance skills.
  • Experience of working within an Armed Command.
  • Existing Weapons Issuing Officer or previous operational police firearms experience.
  • Driving Licence
