Transfer to the Metropolitan Police Service

Locations:

Across London within 12 Basic Command Units (BCUs) as well as specialist units.

Starting salary:   

Constable pay scales are dependent upon current Police Force plus wider package consisting of basic salary plus allowances and London weighting totalling £6,906, free tube travel on London Underground and subsidised National Rail travel.

  • Territorial Support Group Police Constables

The Metropolitan Police Service’s Territorial Support Group sits within the Met’s M07 Taskforce OCU. Providing a 24/7 resource, TSG officers are deployed to a wide array of incidents. Whilst public order might be considered their specialty, versatility and problem solving is what makes them such a valuable resource within the MPS.

Here are some of the types of work that a TSG officer will be involved with:

We’re looking for professional, talented and enthusiastic Public Order trained officers to join one of our 4 Operational bases. Candidates will be Level 2 trained and will need to pass a CBRN medical prior to joining MO7. Our specialist skills requires officers to have, and maintain a good level of fitness. Physical training is incorporated into core TSG shifts. It is highly likely that you will be required to undertake Taser training during your Met TSG service.

Counter Terrorism Policing:

National Headquarters (CTPHQ)

Uniquely the police service, and specifically the Counter Terrorism network contributes to all four Pillars of the governments National Counter Terrorism (CONTEST) strategy.

The Counter Terrorism Policing headquarters, on behalf of government and the National Police Chiefs’ Council (NPCC), ensures that the CT network has the funding, capabilities and resources it needs to deliver CONTEST effectively and to keep people safe from terrorism.

It does this through the provision of corporate services, as well as national operational tasking and coordination. It houses a number of unique national CT capabilities that support the entire network, as well as overseeing delivery of CT policing across the regions to ensure that it operates in a way that is both effective and efficient.

Crucially CTPHQ represents CT policing’s interest within government and with wider stakeholders, ensuring that the policing contribution to CONTEST is both understood and appreciated. Hosted by the Metropolitan Police, Counter Terrorism Policing oversees the UK’s National Counter Terrorism Policing Network.

Counter Terrorism Command (SO15)

The Metropolitan Police Service has a Counter Terrorism Command (SO15). This is responsible for pro-active intelligence-led operations to prevent and disrupt acts of terrorism and re-active investigations of acts or attempted acts of terrorism in London and the East of England.

SO15 works in partnership with intelligence and security partners to gather, assess, analyse and develop intelligence to drive operational activity to protect London and the UK from the threat of terrorism, extremism and subversion. SO15 replaced the Met’s Special Branch and Anti-Terrorist Branch and also has an international role and is the point of contact for international partners in counter terrorism matters.

There are three main business areas within SO15 as detailed below:

  • Operations – Owns and drives the operational activity of SO15 with strategic and tactical management of investigations and operations.
  • Operations Support – Specialist capabilities which support SO15 operations to deliver both the covert and overt phases of an investigation. 
  • Business Management Services – Co-ordination and organisation of business-supporting activities.

Mounted Branch (PC/PS)

The Metropolitan Police’s Mounted Branch ‘sits’ within MO7 Taskforce , the Met’s Public Order Command which also includes  the TSG, Marine Policing Unit, Dog Support Unit and Air Support Unit.

We are encouraging applications from substantive uniformed police officers who have experience of working within a Mounted police department to join us. Applicants must hold a Standard Equitation certificate as a minimum essential criteria. Public order experience would also be advantageous, particularly in a Mounted police capacity. Applications from Constables and Sergeants are welcomed.

The work includes:

Mounted deployments supporting the policing of Public order, sporting and ceremonial events throughout, and occasionally beyond, London.

Dealing with pre – planned and spontaneous public disorder, assisting with intelligence led crime reduction, reassurance patrols, community engagement events ,CT operations and supporting MPS & BCU Priorities.

Duties include all aspects of a Mounted Branch operational unit including horse riding, horse care and management.

After an assessment process, you can expect to be posted to one of our Operational stables  based at Great Scotland Yard, Lewisham, Bow, Hammersmith, West Hampstead. All pre operational & refresher  training takes place at the Met Police Mounted Training Establishment ( MTE ), in Thames Ditton, Surrey.

National Firearms Instructor – Constable / Sergeant

The Metropolitan Police Firearm’s training delivery sits within the ‘Specialist Firearm Unit – MO19’.

We provide firearms based training to all of the various armed commands within the MPS as well as the delivery of training to external Police & Governmental organisations.

We are the largest and busiest firearms training unit in the UK, and successful candidates would be able to diversify into numerous areas of training within the NPFTC Role profiles.

The main firearms training venue is based in Gravesend, Kent as well as some additional sites that are located within a short distance of greater London in the Home Counties.

Some examples of the types of delivery we provide for are:

  • Armed Response Vehicle (ARV)
  • National Close Protection (NPOC)
  • Authorised Firearms Officer (AFO)
  • Command Training (OFC/I&C-TFC/TAC AD/Recce).
  • Rifle Training
  • Counter Terrorism Specialist Firearm Officer (CTSFO)
  • Covert Firearm Training
  • National Firearms instructor Training (NFIC)
  • Specialist Entry Recovery Team

Essential Criteria

  • Currently qualified National Firearms Instructor
  • Operationally Competent Authorised Firearms Officer
  • In date with all mandatory training – OST/ELS/JRFT- level 9.4
  • Experience in delivery of UK Police firearms training within the past three years.
  • Hold Lead Instructor status by being currently occupationally competent, having delivered a minimum of 60hrs firearms training, completed firearms instructor CPD and having been assessed as competent in the previous twelve months; Or, have held Lead Instructor status in the previous three years, and is willing to undergo re-assessment prior to employment.
  • Applicants must pass MPS vetting to RV/CTC as a minimum requirement.
