Being an integral part of the Senior Leadership Team, you will be responsible for driving through the largest change to take place in our organisation's history. You will achieve this up upholding our professional standards, overseeing the management of large teams and delivering projects, both locally, and across London. 

As a leader, often with independent command, you'll face a number of challenges including driving dramatic crime reduction, ensuring that our policing style meets community expectations, and maintaining effective policing against a changing economic climate. 

 


Who are we looking for?

This exciting career opportunity is open to substantive Chief Inspectors / Detective Chief Inspectors looking for promotion. 

Please note that an external lateral Superintendents process will be launching mid-April 2021 which will be open to substantive Superintendents / Detective Superintendents. More information will be available on our website mid-April.

To be eligible to apply for this process, you must: 

  • Be a current substantive Chief Inspector / Detective Chief Inspector; 
  • Have an overall competent or exceptional PDR rating for the last performance year; 
  • Meet the Met’s attendance management criteria; 
  • Be free of any bar to promotion as a result of disciplinary outcomes. 

All expressions of interest must be submitted by 23.55 hours on Tuesday 30th March 2021 and fully submitted applications by Monday 19th April 2021. 

Candidate briefing

We will be holding a candidate briefing on Monday 29th March 2021 to provide you with further information on the process. The briefing will be hosted on Microsoft Teams and will be opened by the Assessment Director, Commander Melanie Dales. For anyone who is unable to attend the briefings, a recording of the session will be made available.

Applicants who have been unsuccessful for promotion in their own force within the previous 12 months will need to provide the Met with specific feedback and development plan that demonstrates they have addressed the development areas. In addition applicants must be supported to apply for these roles by their current management team.
