Job Title: Stable Hand

Salary: £21,780 to £23,877 plus £984 location allowance. You will receive £21,780 the band minimum. Progress to the band maximum of £23,877 will be via incremental progression.

This is an exciting time to be working as Stable Hand for the Metropolitan Police Service. Key Responsibilities:

  • To carry out appropriate feeding and management programmes for designated horses.
  • To care for sick and injured horses.
  • Exercise identified horses in the post holders care, either by riding them or otherwise according to each animal’s level of health and fitness.
  • To undertake tasks as necessary to assist with the efficient operation of the unit.

Job Requirements:

  • The Mounted Branch undertakes operational deployments across the MPD in support of the MPS and local objectives. Therefore, community and customer focus is an important aspect of this role.
  • The role involves working within a small team environment and the applicant must demonstrate a strong team-working ethic as well as an ability to work unsupervised. At times the applicant will be responsible for the welfare of a large number of horses and needs to demonstrate a willingness to take personal responsibility for making decisions regarding equine and stable related issues.
  • The applicant must be able to communicate effectively at all levels both verbally and in writing. At times they will be the only point of contact between partners such as veterinary surgeons and other professionals.
  • The role requires the applicant to be able to effectively plan and organise their workload and show an innovative approach to problem solving.
  • The applicant must demonstrate the skills necessary to work to the level required to meet British Horse Society Stage 2 (Stable Management and Riding), or equivalent standards.

  • Full UK Driving Licence
