Job Title: Change Communications officer

Salary: £35,156 to £42,479 plus a £2,623 Location Allowance

Location: London

Counter Terrorism Policing (CTP) is one of the Met’s most complex and shifting environments. To keep us one step ahead, we want to find an experienced and knowledgeable communications professional who will help us evolve through developing and implementing communications throughout the CTP Network.

As one of our Change Communication officers, you will to help shape and deliver the strategies and campaigns for our entire change portfolio delivering across the whole of the CTP Network, pan UK. It will be your responsibility to help establish and maintain the communication channels that aim to keep our key audiences engaged, skilled and able to conduct their roles to the highest standard.

The ideal candidate will be able to turn complex language into understandable and engaging content, encouraging the reader to explore complex and transformational topics effecting how they conduct their roles. As you would expect, we’re looking for someone with excellent verbal and written skills: copywriting experience, a background in web publishing, development and analysis of insight / evaluation and comms channel development are also desirable skills which will highlight your suitability for the role. An understanding of project management would also be advantageous and assist the selected candidate in developing this role to the highest standard.

Knowledge, Skills & Experience

  • Experience and knowledge of using a variety of communication channels for reaching staff and stakeholders;
  • Knowledge of other communication disciplines - existing and emerging - and their application;
  • Experience in writing and explaining key messages in a range of internal and stakeholder communications channels;
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills;
  • Experience of evaluating communication activity against targets;
  • Experience of advising officers and staff on reaching employees, stakeholders and niche audiences;
  • Ability to identify proactive opportunities to reach staff and stakeholders as well as spotting potential issues and risks;
  • Good organisational skills;
  • Strong written skills.

 

Management

At this time, there is no anticipated line management responsibility for the role holder. However, it is expected the role holder will maintain:

  • An understanding of professional responsibilities as a first line manager in respect of the following: PDRs; Attendance Management; Under Performance Procedure; Fairness At Work and Organisational Change;
  • Awareness of the expected standards of performance and behaviour (and ensure anybody line managed is aware of these standards);
  • Maintaining standards of professional conduct of those under line management;
  • Monitor performance and, where required, produce development plans for staff, providing extra support where necessary;
  • Knowledge and experience of using a range of methods to support and develop individuals in seeking to improve performance;
  • Lead by example in respect of standards on diversity, behaviours and values;
  • Seek to trust and empower staff in their work wherever possible and encourage innovation and creativity;
  • Provide support and guidance to staff in managing change.
  • The communications team share the responsibility of a duty cover rota, including weekends & Bank Holidays. This role forms part of that arrangement (maximum of one occasion per month) and attracts the MPS on call financial reimbursement
