It’s not just removing vehicles. It’s keeping London moving.

London is an evolving, dynamic city with nearly nine million residents. So we face complex policing challenges, and everyone across the Met plays a vital role in keeping people safe. Our Vehicle Recovery & Examination Services (VRES) team are no exception.

In VRES we arrange the removal, storage, examination, release or disposal of vehicles related to criminal offences. It’s up to us to make sure these vehicles are kept safe and secure, allowing thorough forensic and mechanical examinations to take place. Not only that, we recover stolen, nuisance or seized vehicles – and store them at our car pounds.

As a qualified, experienced and responsible driver, you’ll keep London’s traffic moving by swiftly recovering vehicles all around the capital. Your day-to-day will be varied and collaborative, often involved in major public events such as Notting Hill Carnival, New Year’s Eve and Remembrance Day (to name just a few). It means you’ll be required to work in all weather conditions, and have face-to-face contact with people who may be volatile. So you’ll need to be calm under pressure, while still upholding exceptional customer service.

To join us, you must have a DVLA driving licence with no more than six points and a minimum of categories C+E (HGV1 - heavy goods) and have the IT skills to use state of the art vehicle technology. With your excellent knowledge of H&S legislation, you'll also be able to make quick, informed decisions. Maintaining accurate paperwork is a must, as is the ability to write clear and concise reports. It's an advantage, although not essential, if you have completed the Institute of Vehicle Recovery modules as training will be given.

To apply, please visit our website to download a role-specific information pack, and use the link to complete and submit the online application form. You’ll also be required to submit a detailed CV.

Completed applications must be submitted by 19th December 2019.

Failure to supply all the relevant documents will result in your application being terminated.

We view diversity as fundamental to our success. To tackle today’s complex policing challenges, we need a workforce made up from all of London’s communities. Applications from across the community are therefore essential.
