Job Title: Wintel Engineer

Salary: £41,470 to £45,477 plus £2,623 location allowance.

As a Wintel Engineer, your expertise will help us do our best for over eight million Londoners. So, it’s not just a challenging role – it’s a critical one too.

As part of the Service Delivery team within Digital Policing, you’ll use your Windows / VMware knowledge to deal with service-related incidents and requests. Every day, you’ll be solving problems and supporting the introduction of new technologies. Aware of how standards are developing, you’ll make sure your solutions conform to current benchmarks.

With thousands of staff and officers depending on our systems, it’s vital that you do all you can to provide a high quality service. That means supporting capacity planning and monitoring operational jobs; spotting any issues and making sure they’re addressed.

Among other tasks, you'll be installing and maintaining physical and virtual servers; performing in-depth root-cause analysis; and configuring systems, hardware and software. We’re therefore looking for the following knowledge:

 

  • Windows Operating System 2012 and 2016.
  • VMware VSphere (VCentre, ESXi, SRM)
  • Authentication Methods (Microsoft DNS, AD, LDAP)
  • Cisco UCS blade systems
  • NAS/SAN storage technologies (FC, FCoE, NFS, CIFS)
  • Network environments (VLAN tagging, trunking, Firewalls, Switching, Routing, Load Balancing, IDS/IPS, etc.)
  • PowerShell, Perl
  • Industry best practice for patching and updating servers in multiple Data Centre environment
  • High availability solutions and options.
  • Understanding of Network technologies, Cisco hardware, firewalls
  • Red Hat Linux
  • Enterprise storage systems and related technology – Pure, VNX
  • Enterprise backup solutions (Symantec Netbackup)
  • Monitoring tools and their implementation, Solarwinds, ATA, SCCM, SCOM
  • Documenting environments and processes (example: local work instructions).

 

In addition to this expertise, you’ll bring a positive, proactive approach and the drive to get jobs done with a good result. Analytical and good in a team.




This post requires access to the most sensitive intelligence material on a daily basis. Applicants must hold or be prepared to undergo National Security Vetting (NSV) Developed Vetting (DV) level before taking up the post.



Additionally, this material is of particular sensitivity to the UK and its distribution must be restricted to UK nationals. In approved circumstances dual nationals (of which one element is British) may also be granted access. However, in the event that potential conflicts of interest cannot be managed the post holder will not be able to see the intelligence material and will not be able to perform their duties. For the purpose of safeguarding national security and in line with Cabinet Office Policy, supported by Section 82(2) to (4) of the Police Reform Act (2002), applicants who do not hold or acquire Security Check (enhanced) (SC(e)) OR Developed Vetting (DV) clearance and meet the nationality requirements cannot be offered the post.

Experience
