Help us handle every vehicle that comes to the Met

If you like working outside in a role that’s different every day, join us here at the Met Police car pound. Here, we deal with all kinds of vehicles. They could be stolen, seized for motoring offences or needed for forensic examination. Buses, supercars, ice cream vans – you never know what will come through our gates. But with our excellent training, you’ll be equipped to handle anything.

As a Pound Assistant, you’ll be in charge of processing each vehicle that arrives. That means dealing with paperwork, inspecting for damage, monitoring recovery operators and moving disabled vehicles using specialist equipment. You’ll also deal with members of the public. With back office administration too, it’s a varied and interesting role.

In this job, you could be working outside in all weathers. There’s also heavy duty manual handling involved and a variable shift pattern.

If you’d like to join our team, you need to be fit and prepared to undertake Officer Safety Training and Emergency Life Support training. You should also have a full UK driving licence and good IT skills. On top of this, you must be ready to deal with any kind of vehicle. It’s important you can be patient and calm, even in difficult situations. If you’re happy working on your own or as part of a team, there may be a place for you in our Vehicle Recovery & Examination Service (VRES).

Full training is provided and you’ll have the chance to earn vocational qualifications.
