Job Title: Finance Lead - MO11 Business Support

Salary: £64,170 to £70,690 plus a Location allowance of £1,721. You will receive £64,170 the band minimum on appointment. Progress to the band maximum of £70,690 will be via incremental progression.

In MO11 we provide a range of services to the Met, including providing Fleet, Vehicle Recovery, Catering, Travel, Cultural Services, Uniform, ID Passes, Exhibit Management, Records Management and Local support to officers. Whilst these services are quite different in what they deliver, the desired outcomes of delighting our customers, improving performance, delivering innovative services that are value for money and supporting and developing our people are the same. 

If you’re a motivated, forward-thinking and determined finance expert, this could be the ideal role for you.  As the Finance Lead you’ll help us achieve impressive value for money. Continually striving to improve, you’ll offer expert insights, provide professional analytical support and highlight potential risks.  To thrive in this role, you’ll need experience of advising and guiding business decisions and frameworks. If you’re CCAB-qualified, with solid knowledge of revenue, capital and horizon scanning, you could have what it takes. A post graduate qualification would be an advantage.

Job Purpose

To establish a strategic finance function that enables MO11 to track and manage its budgets and fulfil the following aspirations:    

  • We understand the current and planned projects across MO11 and can track spend and financial benefits of all change projects. 
  • We understand our risks and are mitigating them financially
  • We understand our opportunities and we are running initiates to create funds that we can spend on new / required activities 
  • We can track spend on all suppliers and we understand the benefits we receive; we understand where we pay subsidies and have a strategy for rising prices and can offset risks with opportunities 
  • We are effectively using our revenue to fund service innovations that focus on improved customer service and improved customer and staff experiences
  • We are adept at strategic financial planning and frequently test our budgets to meet possible policy changes e.g. reduction in staffing budget 
  • MO11 staff who carry out transactional finance tasks are supported with effective processes and provided with the right skills and knowledge to carry out the tasks
  • We have a clear RASCI that is agreed between MO11 and Corporate Services and we understand how the two teams work together

Successful candidates will be expected to remain in their initial role for 2 years before applying for any other internal roles.

  • Effective communication skills. Ability to explain things clearly either verbally or in writing in the most appropriate style and tone.
  • To influence senior stakeholders within a business, achieving an appropriate balance between customer care / responsive and delivery of professional advice

Experience

Experience of advising and guiding business decisions and frameworks in order to provide assurance on:

  • Compliance with financial regulations, standing orders and schemes of delegation,
  • Managing risk
  • Supporting best practice governance arrangements.

Extensive experience in:

  • Business Analytics and associated techniques
  • Investment Appraisal
  • Financial Management & Planning in complex organisation
  • Budgeting & Forecasting
  • Management Reporting
  • Providing Financial Management Advice and developing Mitigating Strategies
  • Experience/knowledge in:
  • Assessing the commercial impact of alternative service delivery models
  • Public sector procurement and contract management
