Salary: £26,611 to £28,604 plus an allowance of £1,639. You will receive £26,611 the band minimum. Progress to the band maximum of £28,604 will be via incremental progression

This is an exciting time to be working as an IT Support Officer for the Metropolitan Police Service. In addition to large-scale transformation, there's the unique and ever-evolving challenge of policing London. This means that as an IT Support Officer in the Directorate of Legal Services there are more opportunities for you to get involved with making London the safest global city in a time of unprecedented change within the UK's largest Police Service.

The role of IT Support Officer within the Directorate of Legal Services (DLS) is unique to the MPS and requires an enthusiastic individual with a focus on supporting users at all levels. You will provide help and advice on the telephone and in person as part of a dedicated IT Team, carrying out software, hardware and information management related tasks at our office in Holborn.

You should be able to demonstrate a broad knowledge of Windows operating systems, applications and hardware, with an ability to troubleshoot common 1st and 2nd line support issues.

This is a varied role dealing with anything in desktop support ranging from setting up and configuring laptops to maintaining software licensing records and asset registers to updating the DLS intranet site and liaison with the MPS IT Service Desk. Excellent communication skills are required and the ability to convey technical jargon to staff with all levels of technical aptitude. On top of this you will need to be a team player with strong self-motivation and self-discipline capable of working within a customer facing environment communicating effectively with people across all technical levels.

Essential Criteria:

  • Degree in Computer Science (or equivalent).
  • Advance Knowledge of Windows and MS Office.
  • Clear communication skills, excellent written & spoken English and a proven track record of providing customer service.
  • Experience within an IT support role.
  • A systematic, can-do approach to solve problems and enhance systems.
  • Ability to work within a team.

 

Desirable Criteria:

  • IT support experience within a legal firm or organisation
  • Web development skills, particularly an understanding of Microsoft Content Management Systems, Photoshop and HTML

A basic IT written\verbal test will be included as part of the selection criteria before an interview is offered.
