Job Title: Technical Stores Officer

Salary: £26,611 - £28,604 plus £1,639 location allowance. You will receive £26,611 the band minimum. Progress to the band maximum of £28,604 will be via incremental progression.

Keep vital technology safe, secure and ready for our officers

Our officers use all kinds of tools and technology to police and protect London. And naturally, we want to keep this valuable equipment safe. That’s why we have a Technical Stores Unit – and now we need a Technical Stores Officer to help us deliver this service. Join us and you’ll not only be eligible for some outstanding rewards with the Met. You’ll be supporting front line policing and playing your part in helping to keep the capital safe.    

This is a role where you’ll be taking care of our technology and keeping close track of its use. Every day, you’ll check the security of the stores and make sure that access is only possible for supervised personnel. You’ll also manage the flow of equipment in and out of the stores, logging its movements on an asset database. It’s important that our team have all the technology they need to do their jobs, so you’ll stay in close contact with engineering staff to make sure you’re meeting their needs.

Perhaps you’ve worked in stores or a warehouse within the Retail industry. Or maybe you’ve managed the flow of goods in and out of your workplace. Whatever your background, you’ll be used to working with databases or procurement platforms, and have proven IT skills. It’s also important that you can work with a wide range of people including staff, suppliers and your team. With initiative and the drive to make operations even better, you’ll strive to provide a great service and look to make improvements.


Key Responsibilities

What does the average day look like? Your core duties will include:

  • Ensure all equipment movements are recorded on the technical asset register
  • Ensure all new equipment is added to the technical asset register
  • Ensure any returns or disposals of equipment are recorded
  • Ensure all recordings are completed accurately to ensure compliance with agreed standards
  • Maintain appropriate level of consumable items as designated by internal customers
  • Conduct regular audits of consumable items and order replenishments via the corporate procurement route
  • Manage goods in daily and goods out upon request.
  • Maintain a sufficient knowledge of technical items held and their whereabouts within the stores
  • Ensure all stores areas are kept tidy and free of safety hazards
  • Maintain a high level of security within restricted areas of the technical asset store.
  • Manage appropriately all, admin relating to deliveries, returns and other urgent equipment movements and equipment disposals
  • Ensure all items lifted as appropriate making use of kinetic lifting techniques and lifting aids as appropriate.

Essential Criteria

Good communications-managing suppliers/internal customers.
• Good IT skills and experience of using databases/knowledge of procurement.
• Working on own initiative-continuous improvement of role.
• Working as part of a team-supporting colleagues.

Desirable Criteria

  • Full UK Driving Licence
  • Experience of working in a technical stores environment.
  • Knowledge of/interest in technical assets used by security/CCTV industry.
