Job Title: Royalty and Specialist Protection - Security Control Room Operator

Salary: The starting salary is £39,447.20, which includes allowances totalling £2,841 and a 20% Shift Disturbance Allowances.

The salary is broken down as £30,507 basic salary, which will increase annually until you reach the top of the scale £32,639.  Plus, a location allowance of £1,841 and a non-pensionable allowance of £1,000 as well as a 20% shift disturbance allowance.

Location: Royal sites protected by Metropolitan Police – vacancies at both Central London and Windsor sites.  Candidates will be asked for their site preference with vacancies at both London and Windsor. These will be allocated dependent on demand.

 

The Metropolitan Police has responsibility for the protection and security of a number of sites. We need Security Control Room Operators to join our team providing 24-hour protection. You’ll be working closely with Police Officers as part of a high-level security operation.

This vacancy is working in a modern Security Control Room in Central London or Windsor. Operators work a 12 hour shift pattern covering 24 hours a day. You will work 2 day and 2 night shifts then have four Rest Days. You will work operationally with Police Officers and security staff who undertake roles in the wider protection operation.

You will be involved in maintaining the security of sites. This is achieved through the monitoring of technical and physical security measures and by providing control to the site security function. You will provide effective radio communications to colleagues and an appropriate response to incidents. You will need to react quickly to fast-changing situations and make timely decisions to ensure the safety of everyone at each location.

There may be the requirement to work from other sites (in cases of Business Continuity necessity) and there may also be the opportunity to work at other sites across the UK.

Whilst recruitment into this post is on a permanent basis, please be aware that this role is also currently within the scope of a commercial exercise that may result in the role being subject to Transfer of Undertakings Protection of Employment (TUPE) considerations and therefore may transfer from the Metropolitan Police Service to an alternative employer at the start of 2025. Key Responsibilities (not exhaustive)

  • Maintain the integrity of the site boundary through the monitoring of technical and human security measures.
  • Providing effective radio communications to colleagues and an appropriate response to incidents
  • Ensure incident logs are fully updated with all relevant information and shared when appropriate
  • Monitoring Mailboxes and calendars
  • Ensure the relevant radio channels are actively monitored and facilitated at all time
  • Effectively handle, resolve and report issues raised   

Pending a posting to RaSP, you will be expected:

  • To be vetted to RV/CTC as a minimum requirement
  • Successful posting to RaSP will be subject to signing a confidentiality agreement and statement of expectation.
