If you can turn your hand to anything, start here

Fighting crime and protecting some 8m people across London generates a huge amount of work behind the scenes at the Met. That’s when we look to our Enabling Services team for help. This incredibly varied role could be the start of your career with us, and it’s right on your doorstep.

You could be called on to help out with almost anything. In an average day you might order stationery or uniforms, manage diaries, take minutes at meetings or accept large deliveries. You’ll also deal with thousands of criminal exhibits, which vary in size from that of a postage stamp to a four-poster bed, to make sure that evidence is preserved and criminals are brought to justice.

Some of the items you’ll need to move will be heavy so it’s important that you have a fairly good level of fitness. Your IT skills will be essential too when it comes to managing criminal exhibits and diaries.

Beyond that, you’ll need to be someone who takes pride in their work and has great people skills. Staff and officers will be depending on you every day, and you’ll be happy to use your initiative to handle whatever needs to be done next. You’ll even look for ways to improve our processes.

The nature of this important work means it can’t be done from home, but you’ll enjoy great training and a wide range of other benefits. Once you’ve proved yourself, you’ll also have every chance to explore other opportunities across the business if that’s where your ambitions lie.

Before you apply, please bear in mind:

  • Our recruitment and vetting procedure has to be thorough and takes 12 - 18 weeks
  • You need to be fit enough to lift and carry some heavy items
  • You may need to support staff at different buildings in the area
  • Once appointed into this role there may be a requirement for a higher level of vetting and/or a psychological screening.
  • Successful candidates will be expected to remain in their initial role for 2 years before applying for any other internal roles.
