Counter Terrorism Policing (CTP) operates in the UK and overseas, keeping millions of people safe. As a National Desktop & Field Engineer, you’ll use your technical skills to support their critical work. Providing assistance in a challenging but rewarding role, you’ll do something that matters: help to protect the nation.

High-performing technology is vital to CTP officers in their work every day. Working with the Desktop Manager, Field Support Team Leader and project teams, you’ll manage problems with a range of hardware including cryptographic devices. Our portfolio is mainly off the shelf but rest assured you’ll get the training to handle bespoke tech. With this support plus your existing skills, you’ll be ready for a world that never stands still.

Day to day, you’ll take ownership of hardware faults, liaising with hardware users and resolution teams. You’ll need to explain technical issues clearly, so good communication skills will be key. We’re also looking for the ability to uphold excellent working practices; improve Field Support processes; and shape leaner, more efficient systems. Even a small improvement could make all the difference.

This role will see you resolving ICT incidents and dealing with Changes and Service Requests, often via remote assistance. Strong technical expertise is therefore essential, including knowledge of toolsets such as SCCM and Service Now, and ideally ITIL. An organised problem solver, you’ll collaborate to find solutions, building strong relationships. It’s a demanding, fast-paced environment, but you’ll have the determination to succeed.

Please note that some UK travel with the occasional overnight stay is required, along with security vetting.

Besides the rewarding nature of the job itself, a competitive salary and a Civil Service pension, you'll also benefit from excellent career and professional development.

For the purpose of safeguarding national security and in line with Cabinet Office Policy, supported by Section 82(2) to (4) of the Police Reform Act (2002), applicants who do not hold or acquire Security Check (enhanced) (SC(e)) OR Developed Vetting (DV) clearance and meet the nationality requirements cannot be offered the post.

Confidentiality Agreement
