Job Title: Assistant Building Manager

Salary: £32,194to £34,452 plus a Location allowance of £1,721. You will receive £32,194 the band minimum. Progress to the band maximum of £34,452 will be via incremental progression.

Location: Lambeth HQ – Covering Central East Area: Stoke Newington Police Station and Bethnal Green Police Station.  North East Area: Forest Gate Police Station, Stratford Police Station, Cam Road, Waltham Forest Custody Centre, Chingford Police Station. There may be a requirement to cover other geographical sites.

 

Role

As a member of the Building Management team in Property Services Directorate (PSD), this role provides locally based hands-on support to the delivery of Facilities Management (FM) and property related services in the buildings within the Area you are working. This role is important in maintaining an exemplary service to senior officers and staff in the significant, operationally critical and highly sensitive buildings. The role will require you to work across more than one building and you will therefore need to be flexible and mobile.

Reporting to the Building Manager, this role works in more than one building: Supporting the delivery all soft and hard FM services; working closely with police officers and staff; monitoring compliance with all relevant Health & Safety (H&S) and related regulation; helping to improve utilisation and working practices through monitoring the adoption of ‘blended working’; and providing on-site support for all people moves and related activities.

PSD operates a strategic and commercial service delivery model that requires the development and utilisation of supplier relationships, to ensure delivery of its services, so this role will be expected to work collaboratively across PSD, customer groups and suppliers.

Scope

Under the direction of a Senior/Building Manager, deliver building, infrastructure and occupancy related services in your assigned buildings. 

  • Work closely with all occupying units, developing relationships at appropriate levels i.e. Senior Building Lead (SBL) and Building Security Officer (BSO). To provide users with confidence in the effective running of the buildings. A visible presence will always be maintained support on building and infrastructure related issues. 
  • Undertake targeted utilisation surveys to inform desk assignments, workplace design and move planning. Working with other MPS groups you will help put in place comprehensive move plans to include all relevant equipment and technology. Effective management of move related logistics will be required, including preparation of the receiving site and the move process itself. 
  • Support the provision of hard and soft FM services to ensure effective building maintenance, working with FM colleagues, the FM Integrator and supply chain as appropriate.  Where sites have ‘front of house’ services such as security or visitor reception ensure area cleanliness/ quality to give your buildings a world class and professional impression to all occupiers.
  • You will inform occupiers of the reporting procedures for building and infrastructure faults, resolving any service or maintenance issues within agreed timescales. Where planned preventative maintenance programmes are required, you will provide assistance.
  • Undertake the role of the Premises Fire Lead (PFL) as required facilitating an annual fire evacuation.  Complete at least weekly safety tours of buildings and undertake periodic inspections and report using agreed templates, covering all regulatory requirements according to a given schedule
  • Support the inspection activities in H&S and other disciplines. Monitoring H&S and environmental management systems, working closely with occupiers as required.
  • Follow PSD and MPS procedures related to H&S, always ensuring regulatory compliance, monitor all works for the correct H&S arrangements and report exceptions and contribute to achieving relevant H&S and environmental management and performance standards (ISO 45001 and others)

Experience and Qualifications

  • Must be able to demonstrate appropriate experience in property management, FM and Health & Safety, preferably with experience of public sector and secure environments
  • Must have proven experience contributing to the successful delivery of real estate change projects
  • Must have practical knowledge and awareness of H&S legislation and statutory requirements. A NEBOSH National General Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety is desirable but not essential
  • Must undertake and successfully complete PFL training
  • Must have experience of working with a diverse supply chain and multi-disciplinary teams, evidencing the ability to build relationships across organisational boundaries
  • Must have good oral and written communication skills
  • Must have strong interpersonal skills, including teamwork and collaboration
  • Experience of agile or blended working change programmes would be desirable.
