Job Title: Disclosure Clerk

Salary: £28,511 to £30,504 plus a Location allowance of £1,721. You will receive £28,511 the band minimum. Progression to the band maximum of £30,504 will be via incremental progression

Job Summary

We are offering a unique opportunity for the right candidate.

The Directorate of Legal Services (DLS) provides in-house legal services for the Metropolitan Police Service (Met). As part of DLS’ Family Disclosure Team (FDT) you will provide specialist help and support in matters relating to family court proceedings on behalf of the Met.

Work Involves:  

Working closely with the FDT’s Senior Disclosure Officers, Disclosure Officers and other Clerks, this role will involve a variety of tasks to assist with the timely disposal of requests for police information by courts, local authorities, solicitor’s firms, interested parties and other agencies.

Purpose:

To provide an accurate response, within a timely and appropriate manner, to requests for disclosure relating to Family Proceedings.

Key Responsibilities:

  • To review the instructions provided by the Case Holder in order to carry out thorough searches on the relevant MPS intelligence systems and manual filing systems.
  • To review the request for disclosure and understand what information is being sought. As per the Case Holders instructions, attach the relevant reports to DLS’ bespoke case management system. If applicable, pass the file to another Disclosure Clerk to review the results.
  • Use experience to decide if an individual privy to proceedings are identical to those featured in the reports, and consider which reports are relevant and necessary for disclosure;
  • Reallocate file back to the Case Holder with clear and accurate results of information located.
  • Highlight which reports may be applicable to the request and which reports relate to investigations that are ongoing;
  • To assist the Disclosure Team with various administrative tasks. To ensure that all cases are prioritised to comply with the restricted deadlines;

Other information:

Once fully trained and subject to operational need, opportunities may be available to:

  • Deputise at a higher level to cover the Disclosure Assistant or Disclosure Officer roles.
  • Work from home or at a remote location up to three times a week (however please note that initial training will be office based)
  • Take up to two days per month off as flexi-leave, providing the staff member does not exceed the allowance specified with DLS guidelines;
  • You will be required to undergo vetting to minimum Counter Terrorism Check (CTC) level.

To progress to assessment and interview stage, you will need to clearly evidence the essential criteria in your application, if successful the next stage will be interview, this will include a written exercise to test day-to-day working procedures.

Essential Criteria:

  • A high standard of demonstrable communication skills with the capability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
  • Good interpersonal skills, with an ability to build good working relationships with internal colleagues and external partners at all levels;
  • An ability to manage conflicting deadlines and priorities with proven organisational skills;
  • Excellent attention to detail with an understanding of the need for accuracy and precision;
  • Experience of working in a high pressure environment and displaying a proactive and flexible approach to work;
  • Experience of using own initiative and working to deliver results with minimum supervision with an aptitude for working successfully within a team
  • An understanding of disclosure issues, the Data Protection Act 1998 and the GDPR;

Whilst not essential, applicants may also have: knowledge of Met intelligence systems; experience of dealing with disclosure matters or child related issues; good computer skills and knowledge of court systems.
