Job Title: National Police Chiefs’ Council - Strategic Engagement Lead

Salary: Band B - Salary: The starting salary is £57,301, which includes allowances totalling £2,841.

The salary is broken down as £54,460 basic salary, which will increase annually until you reach the top of the scale £66,356 Plus, a location allowance of £1,841 and a non-pensionable allowance of £1,000.

Location: Remote working nationally within UK. NPCC is currently based in close proximity to St James Park underground station, London and therefore occasional travel will be required to this premise and other Police locations across the UK. We encourage applications from candidates living across the UK. Further details on flexible arrangements will be discussed at interview stage.

Contract – Fixed Term Contract until 30/09/2024 (with the potential for further extension subject to funding and performance).

NPCC Communications Team
The NPCC Communications Team plays a crucial role in communicating the collective views and action of UK police chiefs to the public, government, and stakeholders, building and maintaining confidence in policing at the national level and supporting effective engagement with stakeholders. 

The Role

We are seeking a dynamic Strategic Engagement Lead to lead the NPCC communications team till end of Sep 2024.

This is a high profile, challenging communications leadership role supporting the UK’s most senior police officers to achieve their strategic objectives and drive progress for the public.

Working at the centre of policing on the biggest issues for the service, it offers the opportunity to make a real difference.

The Strategic Strategic Engagement Lead will manage complex, high profile and politically sensitive issues.  Their decisions and delivery have national implications with the potential to impact both positively and negatively on the reputation of the whole police service and its relationship with communities.  .

The successful candidate would need to have the following experiences and skills:

  • Highly developed strategy skills with an ability to shape communications strategy on complex and sensitive issues and find creative solutions to communications challenges.
  • Confident in gathering, commissioning and using audience insight, data and analysis to shape strategies, and in evaluating communication including defining evaluation measures and method.
  • High level analytical and reasoning skills.   Ability to think strategically, evaluate complex, nuanced information and issues, take account of the bigger picture, understand linkages and interdependencies, and taking a logical and structured approach to problem solving.

  • We deliver, support and inspire, Level 3 - Give and example of when you have led the delivery of an innovative communications solution and how you supported your team to deliver a successful outcome.
  • We are collaborative, Level 3 - Please discuss you have led a project across a number of different stakeholders internal and/or external. to achieve a better outcome for communications.
  • We are emotionally aware, Level 3 - Give an example when you have needed to consider the impact on an end audience or stakeholder which may have meant changing your original programme to accommodate that.

Additional Information

Occasional national travel may be required. Travel expenses will be paid if location allowance is not being received, or when travel falls outside of the home to work journey. NPCC will pay for overnight accommodation if required.
