Who are we looking for?

This exciting career opportunity is open to substantive chief inspectors / detective chief inspectors looking for promotion, and superintendents / detective superintendents with a proven track record of effective delivery are also encouraged to apply.  

To be eligible to apply for this process, you must: 

  • Be a current substantive chief inspector / detective chief inspector as of Monday, 13 March 2023; 
  • Have an overall competent or exceptional PDR rating for the last performance year; 
  • Meet the Met’s attendance management criteria; 
  • Be free of any bar to promotion as a result of disciplinary outcomes. 

Candidates must ensure that they contact their verifier(s) in advance of application submission to advise on the content of the example they are cited to verify.

All expressions of interest must be submitted by 23.55 on Monday, 20 March 2023 and fully submitted applications by 23:55 on Sunday, 2 April 2023. 

Candidate briefing

We will be holding online candidate briefings for internal and external candidates, prior to the closure of the expression of interest window to provide you with an insight into this promotion process. The briefing will be hosted on Microsoft Teams and will provide advice as to how you can look to prepare for this process. For anyone who is unable to attend the briefings, a recording of the session will be made available.
