Protecting the UK. Keeping millions of people safe. Counter Terrorism Policing (CTP) performs a vital job – and you can play your part.

Join us as a Test Analyst, and you’ll be making sure CTP officers and staff have high-functioning tech to perform their critical work. Together with expert colleagues, you’ll provide a robust testing service in an essential role.

Devices, applications, systems, supporting infrastructure: you’ll apply your proven testing skills to all kinds of IT capabilities. Day to day, you’ll do everything from exploratory testing to data migration testing using ETL tools. Some solutions will have been developed in-house, and some by third party suppliers, but all are mission-critical. Whatever the project, you’ll make sure CTP’s IT portfolio is fit for purpose after every enhancement or upgrade.

You’ll tackle this crucial work as part of a wider team. Working with key stakeholders and suppliers, you’ll draw out detailed test requirements and acceptance criteria, and develop test plans. Good communication skills are therefore fundamental, along with a gift for collaboration. We’ll also be looking for solid expertise on a technical level, plus good organisation.

To join us, you must have delivered testing across multiple IT projects, using test management and automation tools. With this background, you’ll be used to tracking defects, test execution (functional and non-functional) and Agile, Waterfall and hybrid methodologies. ISEB/ISTQB certification would be ideal, but isn’t essential.

Please note that this role is subject to security clearance.

Now more than ever is the time to join the Met Police. We want our team to be representative of our country and are looking to recruit people who understand and reflect the diverse communities we engage with every day.

Besides the rewarding nature of the job itself, a competitive salary and a Civil Service pension, you'll also benefit from excellent career and professional development. If you’re looking to progress, this is an outstanding opportunity.

Job Summary

There is a requirement for an experienced and security-cleared Technical Test Analyst to work within the ICT Test Team. This is an essential role providing specialist testing services and assuring the delivery of new (and upgrades to existing) business-critical IT systems.

The Technical Test Analyst will work alongside members of the ICT Test Team, Developers, Business Analysts, and Project Managers, Technical Architects and Database Engineers, and other important stakeholders, to deliver a robust and rigorous testing service to assure the successful integration and deployment of both in-house and third-party delivered software components.

Key Tasks

The post holder will be required to do the following:

  • Work alongside solution suppliers (both third-party and in-house) to develop Detailed Test Plans (both functional and non-functional) and ensuring their implementation
  • Produce required test artefacts (incl. Test Plans, Test Cases, Test Scripts, and Reports)
  • Working with SMEs, Business Analysts and other stakeholders to elicit detailed test requirements and acceptance criteria
  • Logging and tracking defects
  • Creating and executing test cases and manual (procedural) test scripts
  • Creating and executing test automation scripts (where appropriate)
  • Performing exploratory testing
  • Performing data migration testing – utilising ETL tools (where appropriate)
  • Performing regression testing (manual and automated)
  • Support User Acceptance / Business Validation testing (where appropriate)

The role-holder must be capable of working with minimal direction to fulfil all requirements of this position.

Vetting

This post requires access to the most sensitive intelligence material on a daily basis. However, in the event that potential conflicts of interest cannot be managed the post holder will not be able to see the intelligence material and will not be able to perform their duties. For the purpose of safeguarding national security and in line with Cabinet Office Policy, supported by Section 82(2) to (4) of the Police Reform Act (2002), applicants who do not hold or acquire Security Check (enhanced) (SC(e)) or Developed Vetting (DV) clearance and meet the nationality requirements cannot be offered the post.
