Do the job where anything is possible

Police Constable

The Met, like many organisations across all sectors, continues to manage through the impacts of the coronavirus pandemic. This has had a direct impact on our recruitment of new officers.

Unfortunately, this means that for now we have taken the decision to temporarily pause accepting new applications to join us as a Police Constable for both new and experienced officers. In the meantime, please do read the information available below, and register your interest through our talent bank. We will be in touch with you when we are in a position to accept new applications.

Our very successful recruitment programme has allowed us to reach this year’s growth target several months early, under National Uplift funding, whilst we have also seen the number of our current officers leaving reduce since the start of the pandemic.

Over the next few weeks we are focusing our efforts on supporting our candidates who are already in our recruitment pipeline with the aim of welcoming them into the Met as quickly as possible.

We will keep our decision to pause new applications under constant review. We thank you for your interest in an exciting career with us and look forward to supporting you through the recruitment process as soon as possible.

Thank you for your patience.

Do the job that prepares and empowers you to take on the unique challenges of policing London.

Once we are in a position to welcome new applications to join us, we will be offering two new entry routes to those wishing to join the Met as a new police constable, as well as routes for experienced officers to join us as transferees, rejoiners, and via the return scheme.

Our Police Constable Degree Apprenticeship and Degree Holder Programme for new police officers gives new recruits the added benefit of gaining a fully-funded degree or Graduate Diploma in Policing Professional Practice whilst they train. You will be employed as a paid officer from day one, making a difference to London’s communities. Most of your training will be on the frontline where you’ll be fully supported in putting your learning into practice, whilst earning a competitive salary.

Whichever route you join the Met you’ll receive the best possible training to fully equip and prepare you for policing London. Joining the Met as a new, or experienced, Police Constable is just the beginning of your journey. Whatever your interests, there are so many opportunities to specialise in countless areas of policing and develop your career.
