Job Title: Head of Supplier Relationship Management

Salary: £78,172 to £86,161 plus a location allowance of £1,721. You will receive £78,172 the band minimum. Progress to the band maximum of £86,161 will be via incremental progression.

We are recruiting a Band S ‘Head of Supplier Relationship’ role. This is a senior role that is integral to Commercial Services working within the Enablement & Performance Pillar. 

Within the team, a need to drive improved Supplier Relationship Management was identified. This role is leading the development of a robust framework, set of processes and segmentation model in support of MPS’s drive to implement improved Supplier Relationship Management to supplement existing Contract Management and to drive Supplier Relationship Management in the longer term.

In line with wider Government’s drive to adopt Strategic Supplier Relationship Management, you will work to identify MPS’s strategic suppliers, and set up best practice ways of working, processes and insight that enables improved overall delivery and additional value for MPS.

You will have a wide-ranging portfolio of suppliers over the MPS’s £800m annual spend, each working to deliver complex and high-profile goods and services to MPS. You will drive value through commercial dealings with improved knowledge of MPS’s marketplace, additional data and insight, consistent methodologies, and benchmarking.

As a leader within Commercial Services, you will work closely with colleagues across the Commercial team and wider MPS to drive improved relationships that go beyond risk and performance management. You will enable collaboration, co-operation, and innovation to improve the services that MPS receives. You will work with the MPS Commercial team to ensure the MPS delivers the Mayor’s Responsible Procurement Policy.

Essential For the Role, e.g., qualifications, licenses, languages, training  


Please submit your CV (no more than 2 x A4 pages) and suitability statement (no more than 2 x A4 pages), both evidencing how you meet the following essential criteria:

  • Experience of working in a Category / Contract Management role coupled with a strong understanding of the principles of end-to-end commercial lifecycle management.
  • Experience of negotiating and managing relationships with suppliers’ for-value, critical, complex contracts.
  • Commercially astute with a track record of delivering significant financial benefits through effective supplier relationship management (SRM) techniques. Designing and implementing new processes and performance measures to deliver continuous improvement via a properly structured SRM programme.
  • Strong understanding of social value and sustainability as well as commercial supply chain risk management.
  • Strong leadership skills, with an ability to manage and develop a high performing and multi-disciplinary team across all commercial activity, demonstrating an ability to empower team members, track their performance, and develop their potential. 
  • Experience of effectively influencing senior stakeholders, with or without authority, projecting personal impact and credibility at all levels of the organisation and the external market. Ability to challenge constructively and act as a critical friend to achieve solutions that are fit for purpose.

Additional Information

The interviews will aim to take place w/c 12th June 23. The interview will be based on the Government Commercial Function People Standards at Associate Commercial Specialist (ACS) level. 

There is also a requirement to undertake a Commercial Assessment & Development Centre (ADC) on 4th July at the Associate Commercial Specialist (ACS) level.
