Job Title: Digital Forensic Technician (DF Quality)

Salary: £37,744 to £42,631 plus a Location allowance of £1,721. You will receive £37,744 the band minimum. Progress to the band maximum of £42,631 will be via incremental progression.

Location: Lambeth

 

The purpose of this role is to contribute to the technical development, maintenance and improvement of the Quality Management System (QMS) for Digital Forensics (DF) that satisfies national and international quality standards and the requirements of the Criminal Justice System. The role holder will apply their digital forensic and technical knowledge and experience to work with personnel of all bands/ranks from various digital forensic teams and the Quality Management Unit (QMU), to identify improvement opportunities and provide reassurance of the effectiveness and implementation of the system.

 The role holder will carry out the following duties:

  • Conduct internal audits, write up reports and raise non-conformities and improvements in accordance with corporate policy
  • Liaise with auditees, process owners and departmental managers to ensure corrective/improvement actions across DF are agreed, implemented and verified in a timely manner
  • Maintain the DF audit schedule, ensuring personnel carry out audits to set timescales
  • Write, review and assist in the development of technical and non-technical standard operating procedures, processes and forms for various digital forensic disciplines
  • Assist DF teams with the validation of their forensic methods, reviewing validation plans and reports when required
  • Assist in the completion of gap analyses for each discipline against ISO/IEC 17025:2017, ILAC-G19:06/2022 and the Forensic Science Regulator’s Code of Practice requirements
  • Attend quality meetings with other DF teams when required, write-up discussions and distribute minutes/actions
  • Work closely with the DF Quality Team, actively engage with the QMU and DF personnel, and contribute to building, maintaining and improving the QMS

Essential knowledge, skills and experience

  • Experience working within a digital forensic laboratory which has been granted, or is working towards achieving ISO17025 accreditation
  • Degree or equivalent experience in a relevant digital forensics, engineering, scientific or technical discipline
  • Knowledge of the following quality standards: ISO/IEC 17025:2017, ILAC-G19:06/2022 and the Forensic Science Regulator’s Code of Practice requirements
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel (formatting and document development)
  • Excellent attention to detail, organisational and time-management skills
  • Good analytical and problem-solving skills to identify causes as well as symptoms
  • The confidence to work independently and as part of a team
  • The ability to collaborate with others and work in a constructive manner with a positive attitude
  • The ability to clearly communicate, and justify findings and recommendations to personnel and management of all bands/ranks across DF and the QMU

 Desirable qualifications, knowledge, skills and experience

  • Knowledge of relevant legal powers/procedures/acts (CPIA, PACE and Human Rights Act etc.)
  • Experience conducting audits and writing up reports. Audit training can be provided to the successful candidate if they have not yet received any audit training and/or do not have experience carrying out audits
  • Experience of writing and/or updating standard operating procedures and/or forms
  • Experience of carrying out or assisting with the validation of forensic methods
  • Experience of raising non-conformities and/or improvements within a QMS
