Job Title: Digital Forensic Specialist (DF Quality)

Salary: £45,192 to £49,280 plus a Location allowance of £1,721. You will receive £45,192 the band minimum. Progress to the band maximum of £49,280 will be via incremental progression.

The purpose of this role is to contribute to the technical development, maintenance and improvement of the Quality Management System (QMS) for Digital Forensics (DF) that satisfies national and international quality standards and the requirements of the Criminal Justice System. The role holder will apply their digital forensic and technical knowledge and experience to work with personnel of all bands/ranks from various digital forensic teams and the Quality Management Unit (QMU), to identify improvement opportunities and provide reassurance of the effectiveness and implementation of the system.

 The role holder will carry out the following duties:

  • Design, implement, maintain and improve the QMS across all DF disciplines to meet the relevant quality standards: ISO/IEC 17025:2017, ILAC-G19:06/2022, the Forensic Science Regulator’s Code of Practice
  • Actively approach and work in partnership with digital forensic managers and their teams to identify gaps and improvements to the QMS
  • Write, review and assist in the development of technical and non-technical standard operating procedures, processes and forms for various digital forensic disciplines
  • Assist digital forensic teams with the validation of their forensic methods, reviewing validation plans and reports when required
  • Plan and conduct internal audits, write up reports and raise non-conformities and improvements in accordance with corporate policy
  • Liaise with auditees, process owners and departmental managers to ensure corrective/improvement actions across DF are agreed, implemented and verified in a timely manner
  • Assist in the completion of gap analyses for each discipline against ISO/IEC 17025:2017, ILAC-G19:08/2014 and the Forensic Science Regulator’s Code of Practice requirements
  • Attend quality meetings with other digital forensic teams when required

Essential knowledge, skills and experience

  • Experience working within a digital forensic laboratory which has been granted, or is working towards achieving ISO17025 accreditation
  • Degree or equivalent experience in a relevant digital forensics, engineering, scientific or technical discipline
  • Excellent knowledge of the following quality standards: ISO/IEC 17025:2017, ILAC-G19:06/2022 and the Forensic Science Regulator’s Code of Practice requirements
  • Experience of conducting audits, writing up reports and raising non-conformities and improvements
  • Experience of writing and updating standard operating procedures, processes and forms
  • Experience of carrying out or assisting with the validation of forensic methods
  • Experience of raising non-conformities and/or improvements within a QMS
  • Excellent attention to detail, organisational and time-management skills
  • Good analytical and problem-solving skills to identify causes as well as symptoms
  • Sound judgement and decision-making skills
  • The confidence to work independently and as part of a team
  • The ability to collaborate with others and work in a constructive manner with a positive attitude
  • The ability to clearly communicate, and justify findings and recommendations to personnel and management of all bands/ranks across DF and the QMU

 Desirable qualifications, knowledge, skills and experience

  • Experience helping prepare a digital forensic laboratory for a UKAS assessment, AC4 submission and partaking in UKAS meetings during a UKAS assessment
