Our Safer Neighbourhoods teams are looking to recruit Police Officers from inside and outside the Met, to join our expanding teams across London.

The Met is working hard to restore Londoners’ trust and confidence. We aim to drive more trust, reduce crime, and maintain high standards. You can come and join the thousands of dedicated, honest, committed and hard-working officers and staff in our team.

Change is happening within the Met. We want people like you to join and to help make a big difference.

As a key member of one of our Neighbourhood teams you will police a ward as part of a team of dedicated Officers and PCSOs, delivering on what matters most to the communities you serve.

The role:

  • Lead on developing ward engagement – Prevent and reduce crime and build trust and confidence.
  • Build the trust and respect of minority and low-confidence communities - Through visible, positive, proportionate and preventative policing activity.
  • Help to develop and maintain an effective and representative Ward Panel – Involve Local Authority partners and community members – Share relevant Information and identify local concerns.
  • Develop an effective social media and online communications strategy – To build confidence and keep the public informed.
  • Coordinate activity with the Partnership & Prevention Hub and Schools & Youth officers - To expand youth engagement opportunities.
  • Tackle violence and Anti-Social Behaviour (ASB) - Especially high-risk cases, through problem solving and collaborating with partners.
  • Focus on victim care, working with internal and external partners to safeguard vulnerable victims and witnesses - Reducing risk and harm.
  • Work closely with PCSO colleagues – Support their needs, development and work.
  • Feed good ideas and innovation through to SLT leads – To showcase high quality solutions to neighbourhood policing problems and enhance organisational learning.

The Person

  • As a serving officer, you do not need to move to London in order to join us and we accept applications from officers in all Home Office forces.
  • The ideal candidates will be excellent communicators and will be passionate about working with members of the public to make their local communities safer.
  • Whatever your background, you’ll bring valuable life skills and experience, will understand the importance of community engagement and share our values of compassion, courage, integrity, professionalism and respect.

Right now, we’re looking for Dedicated Ward Officers for our Safer Neighbourhoods teams across London. Although we can’t guarantee where you’ll be placed, we’ll try to balance your preference against where the Met needs you the most.

Shifts usually last 9 to 10 hours. You’ll work day and evening shifts, depending on your location: up to 40 hours per week for full time officers.

Working for the Met as part of our neighbourhood team is a rewarding career where you are able to see the impact your hard work has in making London safer for everybody. In addition to the personal satisfaction that you gain, you will receive a competitive salary as well as a number of other benefits, including development and training opportunities.
