Job Title: Leadership Project Manager

Salary: £39,469 to £47,089 plus a location allowance of £1,721. You will receive £39,469 the band minimum. Progress to the band maximum of £47,089 will be via incremental progression.

Location: The role holder will be based primarily at Hendon, with the requirement to work from other locations across the Met estate when necessary.

 

Working in the Met’s new Leadership Excellence and Promotions Team, the role holder will be responsible for supporting leaders across the organisation, enabling them to lead a diverse and transforming workforce to ultimately keep London safe for everyone. 

This role will provide project management support to the team in the development and delivery of our leadership products. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Procure and manage leadership development providers, including tracking spend against budget and managing supplier performance
  • Manage the leadership programme delivery plan, ensuring that logistics are in place for all delivery such as: correct data on LMS, access to estate, suitably trained facilitators are available and scheduled, IT is suitable for delivery, and continuous improvement and quality assurance activities are taking place
  • Work with Leadership Excellence SLT and others as needed, to define project objectives, and other criteria such as timeline, resources, budget, and completion criteria, and document in a project charter
  • Establish and drive robust PMO, project or programme management arrangements, including project management documentation
  • Work with team members to clarify task assignments, milestones, and deliverables
  • Proactively manage and identify risks and issues, developing contingency plans ensuring that they are resolved in a timely manner
  • Manage stakeholder expectations and communications to ensure alignment on project goals
  • Make recommendations for improvement of all project management processes
  • Able to manage budgets and spend for medium to large scale projects with minimal oversight
  • Ensure there is a communication and engagement plan in place with regards to the implementation of any new leadership programme

  • Excellent management skills, with the ability to own, shape and proactively deliver projects and the PMO activities
  • Able to work flexibly in managing a range of project assignments and able to work independently or as part of team
  • Highly developed project management and PMO skills with an ability to deliver at pace and to deadline
  • The confidence to challenge current practices and develop new ideas, solutions, and business cases - ensuring projects can be delivered as planned and agreed
  • Balancing risk and innovation in trialling new ideas or translating insights into actions
  • The ability to proactively recognise where problems exist and to proactively implement solutions
  • The ability to engage confidently across HR and with the business at the required level, managing the HR brand and selling new and innovative products
  • Systematic, with attention to detail and with the ability to communicate complex project and PMO MI to a diverse range of stakeholders effectively

Knowledge

  • Broad knowledge across a variety of areas of leadership programmes

  • A project management and professional PMO expertise in complex project environments using a variety of planning, control, and governance tools

  • Deep understanding of how things really work in the organisation and understanding the barriers to change

  • Harnessing IT: a good practical knowledge of MS Project, Excel, PowerPoint, and Word, as well as other document sharing/ storage systems

Experience

  • Experience and responsibility for delivering the full range of PMO outputs and overseeing projects with minimal oversight in a complex change portfolio or a complex transformation programme
  • Strong stakeholder management skills to engage a diverse group of stakeholders and manage relationships across varied disciplines, with the proven confidence to report on portfolio or programme performance at a change board level if required
  • Experience in co-ordinating small to medium complexity projects; demonstrating ability to run concurrent projects
  • Previous experience of working on cross-functional business growth and transformation projects
  • Ability to tailor PMO and project management techniques depending on needs and the environment
  • Excellent people management and communication skills
  • Experience of dealing with complex problems and creating simple solutions
  • Experience of working in a team and contributing successful delivery objectives
  • Customer focused; understands the needs of internal and external customers
  • Demonstrates proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and project management software, such as Excel, PowerPoint, Project

Qualifications

  • Prince 2 qualified or equivalent is desirable
  • A PMO qualification such as P3O is desirable
