Job Title: CTPHQ - NPTSU Installation Engineer

Salary: £ 41,945 - £45,952, plus a Shift Disturbance Allowance of 12.5% and a location allowance £2,148.

Location: Across London

 

The National design, installation, maintenance and repair of equipment and systems deployed in government estates.

Key Responsibilities:

  • The installation engineer’s role is within a small team of specialist engineers reporting to a line manager who will be responsible for your pathway development.
  • You will be required to assist in the customisation and installation of intrusive surveillance operations within the government estate and to have a flexible engineering approach, with a positive attitude to the protracted and challenging “theatre” where you will deploy. The role holder will be responsible for the installation of all technical solutions that are appropriate to use under TSU Operating Procedures OP016, in accordance with National Police Chiefs Council (NPCC) – Authorised Professional Practice (APP), authorised under current CT operational demands.
  • The job holder is responsible for the gathering, distribution and recording of the covert product whilst working in ‘theatre’ and will be required to engage in conversations with staff at these venues, whilst maintaining a covert approach to the work being conducted.
  • You may be required to support the installation manager at a national level ensuring that all policing requirements are fulfilled through technical solutions when estate infrastructures are modified.
  • You will be required to travel within the UK for durations up to 5 days at any one time and sporadic back to back deployments greater than 12 days.
  • You will also be required to support the production team when operational demand is high.

Working Hours:

This post attracts 12.5% SDA and flexibility allowance as there will be an element of on call and night hour working

Vetting and STRAP:

This post requires access to the most sensitive intelligence material on a daily basis. Applicants must hold or be prepared to undergo National Security Vetting (NSV) Security Check (enhanced) (SC(e)) level before taking up the post; with a willingness to undergo Developed Vetting (DV) once in post, if required.

Additionally, this material is of particular sensitivity to the UK and its distribution must be restricted to UK nationals. In approved circumstances dual nationals (of which one element is British) may also be granted access. However, in the event that potential conflicts of interest cannot be managed the post holder will not be able to see the intelligence material and will not be able to perform their duties. For the purpose of safeguarding national security and in line with Cabinet Office Policy, supported by Section 82(2) to (4) of the Police Reform Act (2002), applicants who do not hold or acquire Security Check (enhanced) (SC(e)) or Developed Vetting (DV) clearance and meet the nationality requirements cannot be offered the post

Essential Criteria

  • BTec Level 5 / HND or equivalent professional qualifications in Electrical / Electronics.
  • City and Guild qualifications in Electrical Engineering, with C&G 17th Edition Wiring Regs - a minimum requirement.
  • Able to demonstrate exceptional proven knowledge around audio and video, communication systems and IP networks.
  • Able to demonstrate management experience and staff development.
  • Adverse with IT skill base systems.
  • A valid UK Driving License.

Desirable Criteria -                        

  • To be competent around electrical work, holding C&G2391/2392/2377.
  • To be competent in first fix containment work, incorporating galvanised conduit, tray and box trunking.
  • To demonstrate general building knowledge and highlight any DIY projects undertaken.
  • To have a working knowledge of budget and ordering procedures
