Job Title: Security Guard - New Scotland Yard

Salary: £24,504 to £26,345 plus a Location allowance of £1,639. You will receive £24,504 the band minimum. Progress to the band maximum of £26,345 will be via incremental progression.

Location: Westminster

 

Security of New Scotland Yard is a function undertaken by the Parliamentary and Diplomatic Protection Command (PaDP).

The role holder will join a team of security officers providing front of house physical security duties including access control visitor search and reception security. As a uniformed front of house security guard you will regularly deal with incidents outside and some of these will involve confrontation with difficult and sometimes hostile people. You will need to be reliable, discrete and trustworthy with the ability to communicate professionally and diplomatically at all levels within the organisation as well as an ability to remain calm in sometimes stressful situations.

Key Tasks

  • Control Access to the Main entrance ensuring only authorized staff and visitors gain access.
  • Provide a professional search regime for visitors ,searching people and property.
  • Provide support and facilitate safe movement in the event of an evacuation.
  • Ensure compliance with all internal security procedures.
  • Working with police Officer colleagues to maintain the safe and secure operation of New Scotland Yard.

Essential Criteria

  • Excellent Communication and time management skills.
  • An ability to remain calm and professional in fast moving and sometimes stressful situations.
  • A willingness to be trained in electronic and other protective security equipment such as Rapiscan and similar equipment.
  • A willingness to work shifts both early and late between the hours 0700-2000hrs ( for which a shift disturbance payment is provided).

DPS Health Check Requirements

As you will appreciate, PaDP is a high profile Command protecting sensitive locations and the staff that work across those venues.

During the recruitment process of Officers and staff to PaDP, the Professional Standards Unit request Risk Assessments to be carried out on all applicants. This consists of an in-depth Police Service History check including Misconduct/Public Complaint checks and DPS Intelligence Bureau checks. By applying for a role with PaDP you consent for these checks to take place.

Any adverse information highlighted by DPS Intelligence Bureau will be forwarded directly to a designated PaDP Superintendent for review. The Superintendent will assess the information to decide if it could potentially have an adverse effect on the Command and will therefore decide if the relevant application should progress or be withdrawn.
