Job Title: Warehouse & Exhibits Support Staff

Salary: The starting salary is £33,348, which includes allowances totalling £2,841.

The salary is broken down as £30,507 basic salary, which will increase annually until you reach the top of the scale £32,639.  Plus, a location allowance of £1,841 and a non-pensionable allowance of £1,000.

Warehouse & Exhibits Support, Belvedere Warehouse 

This post is part of the Warehouse service delivery team delivering support activities to OSS customers and other business groups in relation to Exhibits Support. The service we provide covers a wide range of activities defined within the groupings of administration, exhibits, compliance and training to individuals and to groups. Service improvement and data cleanse work is involved which requires a good level of IT knowledge and data entry. This post will also require face to face contact with visitors to Belvedere.

Central Warehouse is located at Belvedere Storage Facility and a deeper storage solution in Woolwich at Warspite Road. This role will be based within the OSS Central Warehouse but there is a requirement to move across the MPS as requested. 

Working hours within this role are to cover office hours (between 08:00 to 17:00 on a rota basis) within the agreed OSS operating hours of 6am-6pm.  

Key Responsibilities

  • Work with OSS and MPS colleagues in relation to Exhibits from across the MPS using the relevant software packages (CONNECT) in place as well as face to face. 
  • Liaising with stakeholders with regards exhibits and collections and other general enquiries. 
  • Make best use of the latest technology in particular SharePoint/Power BI/Teams/Intranet 
  • An extensive knowledge of the MPS Criminal Exhibits Manual  
  • Compliance working with the audit and, learning & development process 
  • Compliance with existing exhibits process 
  • Work with other colleagues within OSS, share best practice and have an understanding of the process in each area  
  • Working within the Warehouse to ensure compliance with distribution and retention policies 
  • Mailbox management for Distribution, Pava and, Building Support as required
  • Entering Lab Exhibit documentation onto CONNECT  
  • Support H&S process & documentation management  
  • Training and supporting colleagues in use of CONNECT

Skills, Knowledge and Experience: 

  • Excellent IT and communication skills both verbal and written in particular Outlook and CONNECT
  • Excellent Microsoft package skills including Excel (Power Query), PowerPoint, SharePoint, Visio  
  • Good organisation skills as well as attention to detail and the ability to work under pressure in a confident manner 
  • Experience of data entry  
  • Experience of working in a target driven environment 
  • Be forward thinking and proactive in assessing and completing your work load 
  • Problem solving 
  • Understanding of the current Review, Retention & Disposal process 
  • Knowledge of the Non-Police Firearms SOP, and safe working practices around the storage, movement and disposal 
  • Understanding of the higher risk item process (Cash, Jewellery, Ammunition etc.) with regards to retention and disposal. 
  • Liaising with 3rd party suppliers 
  • Ability to access relevant databases of both current and historic systems 
  • Health and Safety in a working environment 
  • Understanding of both local and central disposal processes 
  • Understanding the process around handling of hazardous goods 
  • Manufacture and Storage Explosives Regulations 2005 
  • Legislation - Police (Property) Act 1897, Police (Property) Regulations 1997 
  • Compliance with all corporate H&S guidelines e.g. manual handling, working at height 
  • Capable of manual handling items up to 15kg in weight (reasonable adjustments will be made) 
  • Demonstrate a flexible approach, open to new ideas, approaches and cultures, valuing diversity and difference, supporting and taking part in change initiatives  

Desirable Skills:

  • Experience in liaising with colleagues and stakeholders with regards exhibits, collections and other general enquiries.
  • Experience with SharePoint/Excel/Teams/Intranet.
  • An extensive knowledge of the MPS Criminal Exhibits Manual.
  • Detailed experience in Outlook mailbox management.
