The fleet services department is looking to appoint a large number of new starters over the coming months. All successful applicants going forward will therefore be placed on a ‘select list’ which means that we will appoint to positions as and when they arise between now and 12 months’ time without you needing to re-apply. This could mean that a vacancy is not immediately available dependent on demand but we will, of course, let you know as soon as vacancies arise.

London is a dynamic, ever-evolving city. Our bustling capital is home to over nine million residents, 150,000 businesses and millions of tourists. It makes for complex policing challenges, but we take it in our stride.

Here in the Workshop we play our part by maintaining the Met’s 1,200-strong covert and specialist vehicle fleet. This is a brilliant opportunity to use your strong experience and passion for motor vehicle technology to support vital policing work across London.

Join our fast-paced workshop, and you’ll be part of team undertaking routine servicing and maintenance on some of the most high profile, unique and specialised vehicles in the country, ranging from light vehicles all the way up to HGVs. It’s a chance to hone your trade and keep up to date with the latest technologies in the vehicle industry.

The role will see you diagnosing faults on all types of vehicles, completing warranty repairs and technical reports, ensuring all repairs are carried out in house. You’ll also be charged with maintaining and repairing additional police equipment and bespoke specialist conversions.

It’s likely you’ll bring considerable experience within the motor vehicle repair industry working with a wide range of vehicles and on vehicle auto electrics. You’ll definitely have NVQ Level 3 in vehicle maintenance and repair, ATA accreditation to diagnostic technician level or equivalent.

Above all, you’ll be committed to doing whatever it takes to provide the Met with a safe, available and well maintained vehicle fleet.

To apply, please visit our website to download a role specific information pack, and complete our online application form.

Completed applications must be submitted with a CV and personal statement. Failure to submit these documents will result in your application being rejected.

We view diversity as fundamental to our success. To tackle today’s complex policing challenges, we need a workforce made up from all of London’s communities. Applications from across the community are therefore essential.
