THE NATIONAL POLICE CHIEFS’ COUNCIL (NPCC)

Policing is operating in a time of global change and uncertainty, the public and our staff need a service which is responsive, able to tackle future challenges and embrace opportunity.

The National Police Chiefs’ Council (NPCC) brings UK police leaders together to set direction in policing and drive progress for the public.

We achieve this through:

  • Coordination – by joining up the operational response to critical national policing issues to deliver policing today and shape the future.
  • Collaboration – by working in partnership as part of the whole policing system and beyond to improve public safety.
  • Communication – by sharing the collective expertise, views, and action of UK police chiefs.

Police Chaplaincy UK
The National Association of Chaplains to the Police (NACP) was formed in 2000 to provide advice, guidance, training, and resources to police chaplains. The huge growth in Chaplaincy provision, the need for consistent standards, the requirement to ensure interoperability and the promulgation of good practice brought considerable demands and in 2017 NACP reformed as Police Chaplaincy UK (PCUK), a registered Charity. At the same time that PCUK came into existence funding was also agreed for a National Police Chaplain to shape police chaplaincy across the UK. In April 2023 the first National Police Chaplain retired and it is with great excitement that a new post holder is sought to provide strong and strategic leadership to support Police Chaplaincy across the UK enabling chaplaincy to provide personal, practical, and spiritual care to Police officers, staff, volunteers, and their families.

THE ROLE

The role of National Chaplain will help shape Chaplaincy in UK Policing. Our aim is to have Chaplaincy at the heart of Policing and the National Chaplain will play a key role in promoting the aims of Chaplaincy across all forces and policing bodies. The National Chaplain will work with the Board of PCUK to achieve the strategic vision of PCUK becoming the professional body for all Chaplains in UK Policing.

The successful candidate will be taking on the baton from our outgoing National Chaplain and will be expected to continue the great work already established but with plenty of room to make the job their own and develop it even further.

  • Provide strong and strategic leadership to support Police Chaplaincy across the UK enabling chaplaincy to provide personal, practical, and spiritual care to Police officers, staff, volunteers, and their families.
  • To support the Police Chaplaincy UK Board in its strategic aim and Lead Chaplains in their roles.
  • To engage across the Police Service to further the integration and development of Police Chaplaincy.
  • Contribute towards the development and delivery of training resources for Chaplains such as Induction Training and Continuing Professional Development opportunities across the range of Police Chaplaincy.
  • To play a leading role in the provision and appropriateness of Police Memorials and organising commemoration events

What we offer (to name a few):

  • Good insight into the strategic priorities of the NPCC and UK policing.
  • Opportunity for development and to broaden your experience at a senior, national level.
  • Opportunities to undertake engagement with a range of stakeholders across policing and government.
  • Flexible and remote working.
